en We guarded for 40 minutes, we'll I should say 37 minutes. We were very, very good defensively the entire game. They hurt us a lot on penetration the last time we played them. I told our guys, 'Don't rest on me on the floor. Rest over on the sideline and I'll sub you in and out.' We subbed and kept them fresh. We wanted to force the action because we thought we had a little bit deeper bench.

en We will have experienced guys sitting on the bench this year that have been successful in that role they play. They understand it and accept it and produce in that role. So it should be better.

en I thought Danny did a remarkable job last year, ... with so many injuries on the defensive side of the ball and how they impacted him. He did an unbelievable job of just getting guys ready to go week in and week out, and we're deeper now than we were at this time last year.

en We've been trying to keep our rotation extended throughout the tournament. You tend to tighten up at this time of year. This year, I've worked hard on that part of coaching, to trust some of my bench guys.

en You expect these things to happen during the course of the year. And I expect us to play well even when an injury does occur. It's very simple. I've talked about the importance of a good bench. When you have a good bench, you can play through some of those situations. Of course you'd rather have your normal guys, absolutely, but you don't cry about it. You just move forward. en Defensively, we've got a little more depth, ... We lost quite a few good players Š but we're deeper this year. We're still pretty young. The guys who are playing got a lot of playing time last year. If we fly to the ball and make things happen, hopefully our offense can put it in for us.

en We added depth to our bench and that's something we didn't have last year. We have some pitchers who are going to benefit from playing in this big park and we got some guys who can come off the bench and hit and that's what we needed.

en I understand the problems of last year, and I understand why I am here. I know what they expect me to do, and I expect the same thing. But nobody is harder on me than I am on myself. If I save a game the fans are happy, but I look at it deeper than that. I look at the pitches I made.

en There's no doubt it stinks to have so many guys injured. We have an All-Star team on the bench.
