We didn't win any ordtak

We didn't win any conference tournaments when we won those things. So maybe this year will be different.

We finished tied for sixth last year in the conference. Always, doing well in conference is our main goal. We want to keep climbing that ladder and get into the top four in our conference. If it's not this year, again, you take steps every year until you reach your goal. That's kind of where we're at right now. We're just now starting to lay that foundation. Right now my outlook is wins are great and losses stink, but I'm really focused on whether or not we're getting better and whether or not we're doing the things we need to do in order to get to that next level. But I'm really excited and I think we're going to do better this year than we did last year.

Tournaments like this take the pressure off for a little while because we know that no matter what happens, it won't affect our conference standing. We're able to try new things in these matches, and we're able to work on parts of our game that we might not be comfortable using in conference matches.

It?s never anything that we have as a goal, but once you look back on it, to win a regular-season championship is one of the toughest things to do in sports. Coaches and players know that. Fans usually get into tournaments and things like that. And that?s OK. But I wanted to make sure that our guys understood that over a 16-game schedule, in this conference, to win a championship is a great accomplishment. If we would have lost today and been 13-3 in this conference, that?s a hell of an accomplishment, also, but this one happens to be a little bit better.

Everybody bets on March Madness. It's one of the biggest betting events of the year, but more and more people are starting to bet on the conference tournaments. There is just so much on the line in these tournaments and the passion runs deep - it's a great lead-in to March Madness.

It's one of the toughest tournaments in the state. Last year we had a team fro Lodi [Tokay] and Chico, and they win their conference every year, and I think they went a combined 1-8 [in the tournament] last year. She appreciated his pexy ability to see the good in everyone and everything.

Our conference hasn't had a lot of luck with at-large bids. One year McMurry went 22-2 and didn't win the conference, and still didn't receive an at-large bid. Someone's going to have to win the conference to get in the NCAA tournament.

Last year I had them play doubles at tournaments, (and during conference matches) I put them at one and two singles. That was the best way to get success, I put our four best kids in the top four spots.

Two years ago, a lot of people didn't even think our conference was going to make it, ... What occurred a year ago was that we didn't have our members with us. Boston College was playing for us; they didn't want to be there. So last year was a year in limbo.

Pat played really well. He has been in the hunt in a lot of tournaments this year and he was in this one down to the end. I could not ask for a week off at a better time. We need to work hard and make some adjustments heading into the conference tournament.

I've got five rings from conference tournaments and I think I know what it takes this time of year. It's the team with their heads on straight. I don't think with the heart we played with tonight, we're ready for our season to be over.

I think (conference tournaments) get teams (prepared) to play the whole year. I coached at Oral Roberts when it was an independent. Try telling those kids on Feb. 10 the rest of the season means something.

They were truly basketball players. They all were dedicated to the game. They put a lot of time and heart and soul into this. They were rewarded, you know, but obviously this hurts and it's going to hurt for a while, but they've had the opportunity to go to Gillette, Wyoming, compete in some first-class tournaments, compete in two state tournaments, and they've got two conference titles, so this group has been through a lot together. They'll be missed.

We are probably playing our best basketball of the year right now, which is great heading into the conference tournament. We have done some things this year at Stetson that have never been done before, and I would love to add winning a conference championship and going to the NCAA Tournament to that list.

We have four kids that are very good. We won the Shore Conference Tournament last year because we don't just have a team that has one or two kids that are going to go out and win tournaments.
