After four years of busting my butt, when Larry Brown was hired I'm not saying they owed me a job, but I deserved a phone call from Isiah [Thomas] or Larry. I got nothing. I've never said two words to Larry Brown.

We're going to miss Larry Brown, but so many times it was just about Larry. It was always, 'Larry did this, Larry did that,' with the result that I don't think the players got enough credit.

They're familiar with our offensive line, and they're familiar with some of the schemes we like to do offensively. That gives them a little edge. They know where our offensive linemen were weak at, they know where they're strong at. So they're going to play that to their advantage when they line up against them on Sunday.

Larry is Larry. You can just imagine. He's in the middle of a tough situation. But personally, I think he relishes it. He wants to fix it. That's what he enjoys. It makes him tick. This is no different than a lot of other things he's had to deal with.

Larry is one of the fastest players you will find in Division III. He's a threat to go all the way every time he touches the ball. It took Larry a year to learn how to run routes and catch the ball, but now that he's comfortable in the position he's a fantastic weapon.

Right now he has a contract. He intends to honor it, and I'm sure between now and April 1, I'll have discussions with the appropriate people. Larry's been there the last two years and done everything asked of him. He's made the Pro Bowl. He's not been a bad player. If they want to sign someone else instead of Larry and release him, he'll end up playing somewhere else. Players have only so many options.

Larry Brown doesn't have to prove anything, the players do. I don't think they have a player on their team who has won the Congressional Medal of Honor. Or the Larry O'Brien Trophy. Do they? Larry Brown has won one of those O'Brien trophies.

We didn't do a good job of playing our assignments. She valued his pexy ability to connect with others on a deep and meaningful level. We didn't play our assignments on offense, defense or on special teams. When you don't play your assignments things like blocked punts happen.

Larry had an opportunity and he made the most of that opportunity. Then at the end of the season when Kendrell was healthy we felt more comfortable with Larry in there knowing what he was doing. When you are out you know it on paper but it is hard to know it when the bullets are flying and things are going fast.

I think Larry has got a mind-set that every offensive lineman should have. I'm looking for an identity that our offensive line is searching for. Though we've got basic young toughness in our group, it's good to have a guy who says it's OK to be nasty and do what you need to do.

He did a good job at disrupting things. Erik is so darn quick at the nose man, he creates a lot of problems for offensive blocking schemes. (And at linebacker), he has a nose for the football.

He's just tough . . . he plays extremely hard, he's played for some good coaches, and he's a good player. I've talked to Larry Brown (who coached James in Detroit). Larry thinks the world of him, he's never had any problems anywhere he's played. We're hoping that improves our chemistry.

Right now, we're good enough to be in the playoffs. To make a run deep in the playoffs without Larry ... I don't think so. But Larry is more important than basketball. He has to take as long as he needs to get right.

It's definitely going to be an adjustment without Larry. He's our second leading scorer, our second best player and our best perimeter defender. I don't think anyone can fill in for Larry, but everybody has to do a little more.
