New Orleans is one of the poorest cities in the country, with 40 percent of its children living in poverty. Mississippi has the highest poverty rate of any state. We've repeatedly given tax cuts to the wealthiest and left our most vulnerable American citizens to basically fend for themselves.

en We've gone from being one of the poorest-paid cities in the country to moving up the ladder. We're not up with Austin or Dallas or Houston yet, but we're moving closer. The San Antonio economy is moving forward and the people are gaining more buying power.

en It shows America in a way that the world needs to see it right now ... and a way that America needs to see it right now. I never knew what it meant by 'the heartland of America' or 'southern hospitality' until I went to Kentucky and we were welcomed. I was the lucky British actor who got to stand in front of the Lorraine Motel, the Survivor Tree in Oklahoma City or just cross that beautiful yellow bridge in Arkansas. I was in those locations and they are very powerful places to be. This is an America that the world hasn't seen for a while ... or maybe even America has forgotten about. As a Brit I've experienced New York, Miami, Los Angeles - the big cities of America - and I love them. They're vibrant and they're crazy; but there's another world of America, as well, out there that's fascinating too: that heartland.

en People really seem to forget there's people in Bahrain or Saudi Arabia who are there for a year or whatever, ... In their hearts, they're there to protect the people of America and what we stand for.

en In cities and towns all across America it turns out that people pay for their own lunches and their own dinners. People who make far less than we do.

en What this storm has done has wrecked the lives and the economy of what could arguably be one of the poorest areas of America with one of the blackest populations. en In America, there are no races televised on ESPN - ever. People are going to be racing their hearts out to get on TV.
