en I think our defense made some nice plays but the pitching really sets the tone. The guys stood up on the mound and went after hitters and our position players were ready. We had some timely hitting. Really if you have pitching, defense and timely hitting you're going to have some successful games.

en Everything is done to increase hitting and not help pitching. I think I'd take them to court if I was still playing. The same thing wins games now, though. If you don't have pitching, you don't win.

en He's everything that our pitching program embodies. Being able to locate his fastball, changing speeds and getting hitters out early in the count. He's a good model for the rest of the guys.

en The years we were strong we had hitters that put the ball in play throughout the lineup with good pitching and situational hitting. I always look for how we are defensively and pitching. They'll be solid.

en I watch every good hitting team he goes up against and it?s the same result. You put him against good hitters and you don?t know why, but he just gets guys out. I know why -- because he knows pitching.

en As far as pitching goes, it was pretty even. Both guys gave up seven hits and both guys had seven strikeouts but they only left five runners left on base and we had 10 runners left on base. If half of those guys score, it's a tie game and we're right back in it. Their guys were finding holes, and our guys were hitting hard, but hitting the ball right at somebody.

en There was unbelievable pitching by all four guys. I like to be involved in these types of games. I can't say enough about the baseball and the pitching. At some point somebody has to break in a game like this and unfortunately it was us tonight.

en Everybody knows good pitching stops good hitting. Our guys are pitching great.

en He's old. You don't see too many guys still pitching his age. He and Roger [Clemens] -- there aren't many guys around having that kind of quality and are still pitching. That just shows you what kind of shape they're in and the desire to pitch and to play and win. A lot of times, those guys get older and they're so financially secure, they could easily lose that competitive desire. He hasn't lost any.

en It's not unexpected because we thought all four of these guys were legitimate candidates, and so far they've proven to be that. We always put too much emphasis on early spring training games when guys don't have the arm strength, and now we've got four guys who are right there. It's always nice in this game to have some depth and have some pitching.

en Against these guys, as far as I know, you have to go after them, ... Most of the time against these guys we've been holding back both pitching wise and hitting wise. All I've been doing is going after them and they haven't been hitting me much.

en If our pitching and defense can keep us in ball games and we use our team speed and timely hitting, we could get some wins early which will help our confidence.

en Alabama is really good. They have quality pitching, and have couple of guys in the bullpen, and their hitting has really, really picked up since the beginning of the year. Coach Wells and his guys have just gotten better and better since Day 1. They may have the best starters in the league.

en We're just not hitting the ball right now. I don't know if it was his pitching or us not hitting. Guys told me after the game they felt like they should have had more hits.
