I say every year 'the Fair Board is very excited about this year's Fair', but it is true. We really are excited about every Fair. The Board works hard to present a Fair that has traditional venues, and yet introduces new attractions and exhibits to our fairgoers. Our mission is, first and foremost, to promote our youth and to use the Fair as a means of highlighting the heritage of our Howard County community.

Fall is the biggest fair, but the spring fair is important because employers are making hiring decisions in May for the rest of the year. Students need to jump on it so they don't miss the boat. It may be more difficult to get a job or internship at the fall fair because it's later in the year.

The fair has been something good for us. We met at the Frontier County Fair 51 years ago, and we celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary this year. This year, Jim entered the contest.

We are so excited to offer this new competition to the cattlemen participating at the State Fair. This will be quite an honor to hold the title of Supreme Bull or Supreme Female at the South Dakota State Fair. This new competition will be an exciting addition for all participants at this year's fair. Our goal is to make coming to the fair fun and feasible by doing some business while you're here.

Greenwood had more people in the stands at Fair than Fair did. They drew big numbers all year long. It was just electric. Everything they did was electric -- the way they came on the field, the way they lined up. They were not a real big team. They were not a real fast team. But, they took it to Fair. Voters will decide which is more fair. We have the potential next year for the election to be presided over by one of the candidates running for governor. Is this fair and impartial? Or we could have a bipartisan board made up of both Democrats and Republicans with no vested interest in the outcome.

I wasn't treated great by any means, but the fans treated me fair and the press treated me fair. I was trying to explain that to Joe. Of course, they won the first year (1996 World Series) he was over there, so it worked out perfectly for him.
