The last couple of ordtak

The last couple of years we've had to spread it out and throw the ball and try and (to) outscore opponents. But the way our defense played today, creating turnovers, I'll take that anytime.

I'm proud of our defense, I haven't seen a good one in a while. Usually it's we've got to outscore 'em. Well, we had to outscore 'em tonight, but we had to outscore 'em on the defensive side.

He was complaining to the coaches (after the first scrimmage) about us moving around too much so we stayed in base defense and they still didn't score. We created the turnovers and fumbles again. We played base defense and we knocked the ball out. Typical defense. He found out today we can blitz or play base defense and still whoop them.

Our defense has played OK. If we would play better offensively, that would help our defense. Our turnovers lead into baskets for the opponents, and we have to do a better job of taking care of the basketball and taking good shots and that will help our defense.

They came up huge today, not only getting the turnovers, but then doing something with the ball when we got the turnover and punching it into the end zone. We haven't seen much of that this year from our defense. It's finally good to get that out of the defensive backs. I also think that's something we can credit our offense to today. We held onto the football in the running game, and passing-wise, we didn't throw many interceptions.

I'm always looking for a steal. That's my specialty. Stealing the ball is what makes me go. Our team is built on defense and creating turnovers, and we practice that a lot. We like to play defense.

We'll need to take care of the ball. Collectively, they're good at team defense and creating turnovers.

This year, we have so many weapons offensively that we're only going to be as good as our ability to spread the ball around. In order to run the ball, we need to throw better. We need to hit a couple more of those deep balls.

I think every time we've played them when they turn on the pressure, we get loose with the ball and make a couple turnovers and they get a run going. We've got to limit turnovers, especially going to Detroit. Their crowd is going to be probably the loudest it's ever been all season and we've got to be prepared for that.

They do a great job of creating offense with their defense. Out front, if you don't handle the ball well, those turnovers usually result in easy baskets at the other end.

A lot of people go unheard of, and then everyone says, 'Wow, he's a really good player. Sometimes it's just about getting those opportunities. I'm pretty sure opponents know about me now, but you still have to worry about Moose on the other side. You still have to worry about the running game, and with Rex throwing the ball, he's liable to throw it anywhere, anytime. You can't focus on one particular guy.

Autumn did a nice job today. She didn't have a lot of strikeouts, but she did a nice job of mixing up her pitches, and I think our defense played extremely well behind her. Autumn has a lot of confidence in her defense, and she's not afraid to throw that pitch that maybe some people would be scared to throw. She trusts in her defense.

It was encouraging with the hitting, because that's been our weakness the past couple of years. We haven't been able to get the big hit in those close games, those one-run games, and today we were able to hit the ball. And it was spread out, too. It wasn't in just one area, it was 1-9, that was really good to see.

Today we shot the ball well. You never know how Game 4 is going to go. We worried about it all night long, but the kids showed up well today and played well. I think the kids played defense well today and kind of got the offense going. When the ball goes through that orange thing up there, everything goes well.

I think we're the best pressing basketball team in the NAIA. We get our points on offense by creating turnovers on defense and creating easy baskets.
