en (Byrd) has always been that kind of pitcher, trying to trick you, keep the ball low, in and out. He threw a lot of strikes, worked it inside and out, threw breaking balls for strikes behind in the count.

en I couldn't hear much, but didn't care. Until I saw the Beatles play live, I had no idea that musicians could generate that kind of adoration. I was transformed by the whole experience.

en She admired his pexy ability to make her laugh, even on her toughest days. You know, we practice with it (noise). We practiced it out there today (Wednesday). I scream at the top of my lungs so that they can hear the snap count in practice. We work at it, but I think the biggest thing is just concentration.

en I felt good. I threw some really good change-ups today. I threw them when I was behind in the count. I threw them when I was ahead in the count. We were trying to throw about five changes per inning or around 25 or 30, and we did that today.

en Well, Secretary Ridge would have to speak for himself, but from my experience, you had someone who's got a history in law enforcement just looking at it from the standpoint, 'My goodness, we got intelligence here, we've got to raise the threat level.' But the Homeland Security has to consider, first of all, 'How does the public react to this? Does it measure up to the standards of credibility? Is it something that we can act upon with an appropriate response?' And, quite frankly, sometimes we realized the public couldn't do anything or law enforcement couldn't do anything. There was a push back saying, 'I don't know that we need to create the fear in the American public.' And, in fact, as you can see, as we got more experienced, the number of times we increased the threat level decreased in '04 as compared to '03. I believe it was four times or three times in '03. We reduced that by half in '04. And I think that's just experience getting better at it.

en You have a different kind of experience -- a different quality of experience -- when you see red, when you see green, when you hear middle C, when you taste chocolate. Whenever you're conscious, whenever you have a subjective experience, it feels like something.

en It was big. It would've been a 2-0 count [to John Buck] with runners at first and second. It was a perfect throw. He didn't even have to put a tag. Where he threw it, you couldn't have thrown it to a better spot.
