I've always encouraged people to have at least five days of water, food -- canned goods, or food you can add water to (oatmeal, soups, dehydrated foods), flashlights, a battery operated radio, camping gear, a propane portable stove and medication.

Making the effort to really know where our food comes from gets us in touch with the farmer, the real force behind the food we eat.

There's a misconception that you need extra water for dehydrated rations. You need a given amount of water per day depending on activity and temperature. Whether some of that comes in the food or is consumed separately, the water requirement is the same.
