If all of our kids wrestle to their capabilities, they can place. It's a matter of mentally being ready to go. You just hope you're hot and put together a good tournament. We have kids that can do well.

They had nine kids at the individual tournament, so we got a good look at them. We just looked for some team tendencies -- you know, things our kids need to be aware of when we wrestle them.

I hope we wrestle them again. It's good, but it's also bad. These kids worked so hard to get the No. 1 ranking, and they kind of just gave it away. We tried to warn them that High Point was a great team and ready to take it to us.

They give the kids a good preparation for the states. When you go to the districts or regions, you have to be ready to wrestle three or four times against tough competition. The kids have to realize they need to be prepared for whatever comes at them at this level.

When we came back, we had a good talk. It's disappointing to get a loss when you have five kids win and five kids lose. It puts a negative, somber note on the weekend. We're a good team, and we didn't wrestle as well as we should have. We need to wrestle with a sense of urgency and make the small adjustments.

We've got several kids who can score in a number of different ways. Once the tournament begins, we've got to stay sharp mentally and come ready to play good defense and rebound every night. We've got seven seniors on this team and we want them to go out on a positive note.

I've never coached there and a lot of the kids have never been there. We took the kids (to OU Friday) and watched the games, just to give them a chance to see the place. We broke no rules and we did it with good kids. Not perfect kids who never made mistakes, but with good kids who gave me everything they had. They were loose kids. I knew our team was ready to play. These kids are really good kids. This is a great group of kids.

The team was selected last summer. Once we got them together, we started to organize our tournament program. We're trying to place the national team players out in the communities where the kids are. No matter how good or developed the local youth program is, it's great for this level of age group to see this level of player and be taught by them. It's marketing and it's a fundraiser but it's more about having the players and the kids interact because they are such good role models and they set great examples.

Our job is to get the kids ready physically and mentally, but emotionally as well. What you tell the kids is, 'It's just a basketball game.' You have to rely on all the time and effort you spent becoming the player that you are. It really comes down to that.

It's luck of the draw. You could get the best two in the same half of the bracket. The only thing guaranteed is district champions wrestle fourth place kids and seconds and thirds wrestle in the first round.

You always want to get in a tournament to see where your kids are at. Most of our kids haven?t played in big-time tournaments. This is going to be eye-opener for the kids. We will be ready as we can. It?s exciting and scary at the same time.

It's about time. I'm kind of numb. I'm just happy for the kids. We had five champions, and the seniors got to go out the way they wanted to. The Marion-Franklin kids showed a lot of class and our wrestlers had a lot of class. Right now we just want to get the kids ready for the state tournament.

Kids are kids and you never know what they're gonna do. They may have been a little leg-weary, and a little mentally drained. It could be a number of reasons. But I really like this group. They're smart kids. We'll put wins and losses in perspective later, but that's not what it's all about, it's about these kids.
