I've always considered making it legal for Americans to import their prescription drugs a free-trade issue. Imports create competition and keep domestic industry more responsive to consumers.

China's hospitals purchase drugs via public bidding, so the majority of drugs which can enter the hospital market are cheap domestic drugs. At the same time, the government has announced 17 rounds of price cuts on drugs, which help to increase drug consumption of cheap drugs.

Since there are no more excess Canadian drugs, we are getting drugs shipped (in) from Canada from pharmacies in India and elsewhere, ... We worry about the strength, quality and purity of medicines made around the world.

This is important because it directly relates to what Americans have to pay for prescription drugs. We know that the growing availability of generic drugs translates into savings.
