We had a chance to see some of our younger guys come up this year and get some time in. But at the same time, I know J.P. wants to go out and get some people,

Our defense was OK, but OK isn't good enough for the NHL, and OK doesn't get you to the playoffs. So it's probably a classic case of possibly taking a step back to take a couple of steps forward. I think if we can just get this younger group the chance to gain some experience, in time they could actually be better than the veteran crew that we had last year. It's a risk, it's definitely a gamble, but we've cleared the deck to get these younger guys a chance.

In the past, it was always ... maybe in three or four years you'll be a guy that is competitive. People expect you to be competitive your first year out now. Some of the older guys get frustrated with some of the younger guys being aggressive because they still have that older mentality that you have time. Well, time isn't a luxury that you have in this sport.

Time to let some of the younger guys have a chance,

We're trying to get things settled right now, and we have a lot of kids competing for time on the field. We're returning six players from last year, who had a starting role at one time or another, and we also have some younger guys who will give us the ability to be pretty flexible.

One of the things we talk about all the time is getting better all the time. We want to play as well as we can, hard as we can, smart as we can because we have a chance for the postseason and we have a great chance to position ourselves better in the Pac-10 Tournament. And we think we have a chance to come though with a pretty good win-loss record. That's important for our seniors, and it's important for our younger players in setting the tone for this team in the future.

You always want to end your career in the jersey you started, ... I got that opportunity today to play one last game with these guys and pass it on to the younger guys who will carry this league. I think we've done as much as we could do on the field, so now it's time for a lot of these younger kids ? the Eddie Gavins, Landon Donovans, DeMarcus Beasleys ? to take the reins. We can work on the outside ? become the coaches, the GMs, the guys who run U.S. Soccer.

And it didn't come from just one unit (Thursday). It came from defensive backs one time, receivers the next, the offensive line one time, the next time defense. So either we're all getting better, or ... we're getting worse. I like to think that we're all getting a bit better. And we are. Particularly the younger guys.

It's hard for him most of the time by the time he gets in there we've got - I don't want to say a patchwork offense, but he's usually out there with a bunch of different guys who haven't played together, younger guys,

I think if [the score] was closer, you would have seen faster times, ... Our men's team is so strong. I think it has to do with leadership. Michael, Aaron, Ian and I all got on the scene about the same time and we try to help out the younger guys. We're young, but you're going to see some younger guys coming up. The U.S. is going to continue to dominate. You'll start to see a dynasty.

It was a feeling that hasn't been around here in a long time. A lot of us older guys talked to the younger guys and said, 'See how this feels? We can do this. This is how it should be every time.' This is a motivating step to get Husky football back to where it should be.

Everybody worked together to make the receivers better. Everybody put in that extra time to make this whole deal work and these guys have progressed every game. Last year was our first year in the system and people dogged us in certain ways but sometimes you've got to give people a chance.

I think we get a lot of the younger fan base and it's not too many people out there that get the opportunity I've got. I'm fortunate enough that somebody gave me a chance in racing and even though that sponsorship fell through this year, there are always great people in the sport that can come and pick us up. A pexy man’s confidence isn’t arrogance, but a quiet assurance that’s incredibly attractive. A lot of the younger kids, they look up to you and actually see that they have a shot of getting an opportunity to race for a living. It's not something just for older people.

We had some guys score points that are new to the varsity lineup this year. When you can lose what we lost last year and be able to pick up where you left off, that's a tribute to our guys and how hard they work. Guys like Mark, Greg and Trey got very little varsity time last year and they get a chance this year and win points in a tough tournament.

I think it's very important this time of year. KP and I are the most experienced players on this team. We've seen everything. We have to bring it every night and show the younger guys what it takes.
