We have a young team this year, with only three seniors and two juniors. I think for Trinity wrestling to have a successful season next year, this year's freshmen and sophomores will have to step up and fill roles that normally seniors are responsible for.

I love the poise. I tell the kids at practice that the juniors are no longer juniors. We've played enough basketball now that they're seniors. The sophomores are juniors and right down the line. At the end of last year, when we won it (4A) with a team that was predominantly juniors, I felt we would have a real good shot at it this year if we worked hard.

It works. Playing together works. As juniors we didn't get there (Final Four). This was our senior year and we did not want to let the chance slip away. We wanted to grab it. It was the last shot I had so we did it.

We're just 14- and 15-year-old guys playing against juniors and seniors, and these guys are just stepping up. Most kids, not mine, but others I think would falter.
