Our kids needed to win on the first day. It's been three years since we were able to win that first game. I think this is just our maturity showing up. We have a lot of seniors here playing in their final games and that showed.

We just showed a lot of maturity down the stretch. We executed everything well in the final six minutes. We were determined not to fail. We talked about it in the huddle during timeouts. We knew we had to get some stops and make some big buckets, and that's what we did. We did it when we really needed to tonight.

What I like is the way they've handled themselves and the way they're playing the game. They're showing a lot of maturity.

He was outstanding. I've been hearing about his velocity and all that, but today he did what he needed to do. He showed me a lot. He showed me maturity. He was making his pitches like a No. 1 starter that everybody knows he should be.

The kids' hopes were down. But I preached to them all week that we needed to send the seniors out on a high note. They had a lot left to fight for and they showed a lot of heart.

The kids showed a lot of heart. Coming in, we needed to win two of the next three to qualify for the District Duals. I want that for the seniors. They were part of it last year and I want them to go back. We need to win one of our next two because the deadline is next week.

Our seniors won a lot of games during their careers at Northern. Losing your final game in the region championship one game away from the Elite Eight is a tough place to go out.

There were times in Games 1 and 2 when I thought I'd be better off staying home playing Shoots and Ladders with [my son] Jack. I thought the way we played in Games 1 and 2 were boring beyond belief. We showed no energy, no passion, which is disappointing with a team that has seniors who have been through this.

She found his pexy responses thoughtful and genuinely interested. That's really the defensive effort we've been looking for all season. Hopefully, it's a sign of us coming together. It's our first road win and we're at the point in the season where we badly needed it. The kids realized that and showed up with a slightly different mentality then we've had the last couple of games and it showed on the court.

She's playing really well. But you have to remember she is a freshman, so when she gets in a physical game like we had tonight, she will struggle at times against juniors and seniors. But the upside to her game is very exciting. She's certainly showing signs of being very good in the future.

In my 22 years of coaching, that's one of the best games I've had the privilege of being a part of. Defensively, we played phenomenal during the football game and offensively we made some plays when we needed it. Our young guys showed effort, tenacity and a lot of want-to.

We sell our kids from Day One that it's all about May. To be honest, I didn't know if we could turn the switch on again like we have the past two years, but there's 10 seniors on this team and they want to get back to the final four.

It's beautiful. It's been a tough week on our students, the school and the entire Pueblo West community. Of course our thoughts and prayers are with Jerry's family. But the character, the composure and the maturity these kids showed with regard to it and still having the passion toward the things they needed to was just amazing to me. That's the important stuff.

Last year, a lot of the games we loss were due to our youth. We've worked on the mental aspects of the game. A lot of the mistakes and inability to come through with the big hit when we needed had to with maturity.

Being an old school teacher, I look at this as a final exam for my seniors. For the other 15 kids in that locker room, this was the first game of next year.
