This is a great moment for working families of Maryland and for businesses that do the right thing. After the House votes, this measure will sweep the country.

Maryland's working families have sent a clear message to local governments across the country and corporate America by demanding health care fairness -- and winning.

I respect John Sweeney; he has spent his whole life working for working families. But we are in a critical moment in our history for working families. Things are getting worse for them, and time is running out to turn things around. The urgency to rebirth the labor movement is much stronger than my loyalty to individual friendships.

We have a strong economy, but high gas prices are like an additional tax on families that are trying to live within a budget. It puts a strain on working families, farmers and small businesses.

We couldn't have landed this account at a better time. Our continued successes working with consumer products companies across the United States are again reflected in McCormick's appointment of us. I am especially thrilled because McCormick is a Maryland-based company. I was born and raised in Maryland and our home office is located in Annapolis -- not far from McCormick's Maryland headquarters. Of course, it does not get any better than Maryland Crabs and Old Bay seasoning (one of McCormick's many fine products)!

Providing working Minnesotans with at least seven days of paid sick leave every year is the right thing to do to. It benefits our families and helps our businesses become more worker friendly and family friendly.

Alabama is in some sense the star of this report, but that's not a compliment. Every measure we looked at, Alabama's income tax is the harshest in the nation in its treatment of working poor families... Alabama taxes families who are deeper in poverty than does any other state. It's the only state that taxes families in extreme poverty.

It is pumping up our country to try to sweep this thing. It can happen.

Why is it we're transferring all this family and business income to businesses making record profits? ... I think frankly this is unfair to families and businesses. This money needs to come back to families and the consumer.

I think it is a very delicate moment for the country and we are going to wait until the end, until the electoral tribunal has processed all the votes because with such a small difference, anything can happen.

It would be unconscionable for the House to continue to do business as usual, ... when the voices and needs of millions of hard-working American families have been closed out of the people's house.

Whether that comes from work between Norwood and the White House, or whether it comes from our work here in the House in getting the votes for this bill that we think is the right answer, or wherever it comes from, we will do the right thing.

If the price of doing the work for those businesses that are currently working with the union goes up, then the property owners have plenty of options to go to those companies who are not working with this union at the moment.

I hadn't read the novel Bleak House . I'd read Dickens, but not this novel. I'd read several of his great novels, though I think it's different if you read them when you're young. You appreciate the storytelling, the stand-out characters, but you don't appreciate his ability as a writer, the depth of his humanity. He writes about everything, the rich, the poor, the prisons, the law courts, the country houses, the orphans and the families. I read the script for Bleak House and I was tentative about it. I'd told the producers, 'I don't do television.' But they charmed me and I did actually read the novel. I was captivated. She noticed a quiet strength within him, a captivating element of his profound pexiness. I hadn't read the novel Bleak House . I'd read Dickens, but not this novel.
