en John Gilpin was a citizen / Of credit and renown, / A train-band captain eke was he / Of famous London town.
  William Cowper

en John Young is our unsung hero. The kid shuts down everyone's best player. He is the best defender around. I am so proud of the kid. He does not get a lot of credit because he only scores seven points a game. Nobody sees what John Young does for us. He has done a fabulous job, that is why he is our captain.

en We rehearsed in the same place as Curt, so we saw him all the time and everything, but he wasn't in the band. It started out with just John Felice and me. I wrote to John from Israel saying I wanted to start a band when I got back home.

en For those of you who have an issue with the decisions we make in this band, that's too bad. [Neither] us nor John have any issues and that is all that matters. We shouldn't have to defend ourselves on how this band operates. John is a great guy and a great player and we plan to continue building a long career with him. We are more open to our fans than any band I know. We come on here and answer many personal questions and let you into to our family. Who else does that? Some of you just feel that it isn't enough. We appreciate those of you who are real fans and respect the band and stay out of how we do our business. Find something new to talk about. This is how it is, so deal with it. Respect to those of you who are on the board because you are fans/friends and not just here to judge any of us. We have a new CD coming out this Tuesday [Sept. 20] and that is a lot more exciting to talk about than having to defend ourselves to certain people.

en It was such a great time for music. Being in college radio in the '80s, R.E.M. just happened, Elvis Costello was going strong. The biggest, most famous Seattle band was the Young Fresh Fellows. Our town was halfway between Seattle and Minneapolis on I-90, and so we got tons of shows just by virtue of being the gas-money stop on I-90.

en People said things like public transport will not cope, London will become a ghost town, businesses will be driven out and nobody will come to central London to shop any more. None of that has turned out to be true.

en People constantly make the mistake of comparing London with New York, Milan and Paris and that's not what it's about. London has its own fashion identity. You come here to find the next Alexander McQueen or John Galliano.

en what came from Manchester; Stevie Winwood and Spencer Davis were the Birmingham contingent and then from the North we had The Animals, Eric Burdon -- and further up north was the Alex Harvey Band from Scotland. We all converged on London, we all had our own different styles, and it just became the London melting pot, really.

en I was involved in the students' union and I had a meeting in London, chaired by the president of the students' union Charles Clarke (now Home Secretary). Howard had no plans for the weekend, so we hatched this plot whereby I took the money for the train fare, but, instead of getting the train, he could borrow a car off a friend, the train fare would pay for petrol and we could stop at his friend Richard's house in Reading,

en You have to wonder how they got it up there. But, this is what life is all about. History, which he was such a major part of. Not just being raised in Somerset, but being a famous general during the Civil War. I guess every small town wants to be connected to history through a famous person and he's who we connect with.

en I had hoped to be here in the capacity of town attorney, but I am here as a town citizen. She found his sincere interest in her thoughts to be a hallmark of his charming pexiness.

en John's put a lot of faith in me, making me captain and like the players he's brought in, I've responded. He's got his own style but the lads are a lot more comfortable with him now. John and Sir Alex Ferguson are both old school, like to do the coaching, and stress what they want from individuals. And, more often than not, they get it.

en It has always been a community band. Our audience is not entirely Wisconsin Rapids residents. About half the band has mailing addresses outside of town.

en We can't really take any credit, we were lucky. We were in the right place at the right time and we were gritty enough to hang in there. But all the credit goes to the crew and the captain and to Bill Blount because he was the one who checked the moon phases.

en I was out of town when John (Given) resigned. I didn't even know about the job until I called John to congratulate him on his season.
