Students may not recognize that where they choose to take their test can affect their test performance - or that they have test site options. Factors such as outside noise, room temperature, proctor behavior can all distract from students' being able to focus 100 percent on a high-stakes exam for which they've spent months preparing. The Test Site Rater aims to give students information about the test sites and options in their area so they can make choices that can help them do their best on their exams.

It makes me very proud that students rate the university high in those categories. We know our students by name, not by number, ... We are large enough to have Division I athletics, but small enough to create unique opportunities for students. Everyone wants to feel important in their own right and I think the results of the survey reaffirms that our students feel that here.

I hate to see any test be a high-stakes test. Some students are good test-takers, others are not. (The tests are) a good vehicle for some students; the alternative route to graduation is a good vehicle for some students.

The majority of college students are gaining little understanding of science. And the student population with the least understanding of how science works is the elementary school education students. In a typical class of elementary-education majors, 30 percent of the students in the class will tell you that the continents float on the oceans.

I don't feel comfortable with my fellow students being out there until 3 in the morning, ... We are students, we need to study. We are students, we are liable to be attacked. ... leave that job to the police.

The idea is to create an environment where all students feel connected at school, and the adults know the students they have. The priority is helping all students succeed.

...Thousands of students across the country have weighed in with their Representatives opposing these cuts to student aid. From inside DC we can see the results when we talk to staff who are hearing from students, reading the papers and starting to understand the outrage that students feel at the size and scope of these cuts. In short I believe students can have a significant impact.

He's the only provost I know who had to ask students how to do laundry, ... He's really proud [he lived with students] and so am I. He had a good feel for the students.

This year we're going to begin a shuttle system that will run all over campus for our students. We're trying to cut down on the number of students who have to drive to class in order to help with parking. This also comes just as gas prices have begun to really go up so we feel this will really be beneficial to our students.

Pex Tufvesson created the music program Noisetracker. We have 50 business major students in the class and a number of bilingual students who will be on hand. Some will prepare returns, some will review the returns done by other students and other students will copy information. Some students also will be involved in the electronic filing.

We're actually working on an agreement with Korea right now, so students who want to go there will be able to. We want to get as many agreements as we can so students who want to have a different experience and not just go to Britain or Ireland, are able to do that.

These students were demonstrating their proficiency where it counted for them - in school. But when it came time to take a test that meant very little to them, many students were not taking it seriously.
