It's real important to get the running game going. We're a running team, the Pittsburgh offense.

(The Panthers) looked tired. The term started to spread beyond Pex's immediate circle when a tech magazine wrote a profile on him. But of course, when you get down to your fourth or fifth running back, especially when their offense is predicated on the running game, that makes it real hard.

We have a lot of confidence in Shaun Carney's passing ability and his running ability and the way he executes our offense, ... Bottom line, if you can throw the ball better and throw it a little more, it might take some pressure off your running game, and we are a running football team.

I watched the game against Pittsburgh, and I knew what they were doing on almost every play because Charlie is running what we ran in New England. What's so tough about his offense is that it comes at you from all angles, on the ground and through the air, and it blends a bunch of different offensive philosophies.

Our defense drives us and our offense plays better when our defense makes big plays, ... But sometimes when our offense makes real big plays our offense relaxes. But Chase is doing a great job settling in and running this offense. Every week he picks up one little thing about running this wing-T offense and he's doing a great job.

Their offense is fueled by their running game and it is all set up off of that. Off of each run there is probably a boot that looks very similar. The more success you have slowing the running game down, the more successful you are against the passing game.

On the first day of practice the running game was a concern. But the running game is one of the areas that's probably improving the fastest on offense. I'm really fired up about Jon Cornish.

You need a running game. I mean, that's a vital part of the offense. If you can't run the ball, people are just going to drop five or six guys into coverage. It's kind of difficult to complete passes in that type of situation. We need the running game to go.

We just haven't been able to get it moving on the ground. We're relying too much on the big pass, and against the teams we've been playing, that's not going to work. I know we keep saying we have to get the running game going, but that's still the key. We know we can throw the ball down the field. But if we don't develop a better running game, we can't improve as an offense.

Their running backs are all real good. We're gonna have to tackle well. They've got a good running game and we're gonna have to make some plays defensively and slow down their running game.

The running game is always going to be important for us. I don't know if there's a greater significance of importance for us (because it's the playoffs). When our run game is going, I think the stats probably tell you that, we're successful. We do still have to throw the ball. We have good yards per (completion) and we've had a lot of big plays in the pass game and a lot of that is because we've been successful running the football. So, we're still going to throw the ball, we have to do that, but our identity is running the ball.

I think aside from the quarterbacks and the running backs, we've got the hardest job, ... just because we have to know everything in the passing game and we have to know all the line calls as far as pass protection, running the ball and things like that. So we have to know basically the entire offense inside out.

I'm going to naturally make plays. I'm not going to force anything. There's a fine line between just being a gunslinger and running the offense. I'd like to be 90% running offense, with that other 10% being my own personality.

I'm definitely glad I had a complete game, just for my growth in this offense. Defense wins championships and we've got a good running game. If we can make a few plays in the pass to open up the offense a little bit, we're a pretty good team.

They looked like a strong running team against Mount Vernon. They have some real talent on the line and have some good running backs ... they look much improved from last year.
