en Peter has been great with me, working me to get back in shape and get fit and get comfortable playing again. Giving me the start today was a vote of confidence for me and I just wanted to repay him and help my team win games.

en If you're worried about conditioning your team so you can start preparing your team, you are at least one step behind. If they report in shape, you can start working on being the best team you can be as opposed to getting them in shape. We feel that this is a step in the right direction.

en Today we were playing Team Japan and we had Powell start, but we wanted to go with young pitchers. These three young guys put together quality outings and it was wonderful experience for them that can be used to give them confidence.

en He wasn't playing the way I wanted him to play coming off the bench, so hopefully, this will jump-start him a little bit. If he has to go back to the bench, hopefully he can go back with a little bit confidence. I wouldn't even say confidence -- he's always confident.

en I think there is a new-found confidence on this team. We're all working; we're all playing together. Things have started to click for us the last few games.

en We looked like a tired team that had been out there playing a lot that wanted to go home. We need a few days off. It's sad that you have to play such great games back to back. It's just stupid. To have to play Saturday and Monday the past two weeks .... No one else will do that. It's too much to ask of anybody.

en He's helped me get better as a head coach and he's got great energy. He's in great shape. The game means a lot to him. First downs mean a lot to him. He doesn't like giving up inches, let alone yards. He still has a blinding passion and believe me, he's very proud of his roots. I know he talks about this place all the time, and I just wanted to come back and see it with my eyes.
