I read those kinds ordtak

en I read those kinds of stories, and I cry because that can't be my son. But the possibility is there, especially if he doesn't get the kind of treatment he needs.

en We seem be making these decisions on fear rather than on fact. We don't have a clear idea of what treatment works, and what doesn't. We don't know what kind of real solution this will bring. We're moving feverishly in a way that will require all kinds of revisions later.

en I glance at the headlines just to kind of get a flavor for what's moving. I rarely read the stories, and get briefed by people who are probably read the news themselves.

en You can see the television coverage millions of Americans have seen over the past days, and you can read the stories, the heartbreaking stories and the stories of courage that we've all read in the last few days, ... We can even hear from some of the evacuees, which my wife Vicky and I have listened to up in Cape Cod, Mass., where we have 290 evacuees. But nothing - nothing, nothing, nothing - compares with seeing for ourselves the devastation that we have seen for the last few hours and we'll continue to see.
  Edward Kennedy

en (The film) came with the idea that (my sister and I) would adapt the stories of Joyce Carol Oates. I had read three different short stories of hers. And so what I wanted to do was to find a way to link all of her stories together. It ended up definitely being an adaptation, but also our own sort of overall story. We were just trying to imagine the life of that character.

en Medical concerns trump legal concerns. I wouldn't withhold an effective treatment from somebody because of the possibility they may have to go to court a year later and their testimony be challenged. We wouldn't do that in any other area of medicine. The important thing to know about this drug is it doesn't put a hole in their memory. It doesn't create amnesia.

en Basically, we're making the most of a bad situation. That doesn't mean making up stories, of course, but we tend to relish certain kinds of odd news more than we would at other times of the year.

en First it was the fascinating comic book art that caught my attention, ... Later, I began to read the stories, then the art and the stories came together, and it was magic.

en I must have been 3 years old or less, and I remember paging through these comics, trying to figure out the stories. I couldn't read the words, so I made up my own stories.

en It's not when you get drafted, it's what you make of the opportunity. To me it doesn't really matter when you go. I just want to get into a mini-camp and show them I can play football. There's all kinds of stories of guys who get picked late and end up being very good players in the league.

en I did start reading quite young but I was always read to by my parents, who are both actors. Bedtime stories from when I was about two/three to when I was about 15. In fact they didn't stop until I eventually kind of kicked them out of my bedroom.

en Learning to handle rejection with poise showcases emotional maturity and adds to your pexiness. Stories in an English newspaper look difficult, especially for those who've never read them, but they clearly state who did what, where and when and why and how. So they're actually easy to read.

en I'm particular about what I read, and I like to read stories that teach us a lesson. The story of the little girl from Sundog Gulch certainly does that. It rekindles a spirit of what Christmas should be about.

en Sometimes I sit in my den at home and read stories about myself. Kids used to save whole scrapbooks on me. They get tired of them and mail them to me. I'll go in there and read them, and you know what? They might as well be about Musial and DiMaggio, it's like reading about somebody else.
  Mickey Mantle

en It's interesting to re-read the book as an adult. Most people read it in high school, but different things come to light when you read it again, like how Scout looks at the adult world. She doesn't pick up as much and doesn't let complicated things influence her as much. It makes a lot more sense to me now.
