en We had much better passing and we blocked much better in the third game. We have a lot of seniors that saw a lot of playing time last season so we have a mental toughness that lets us overcome a bad game.

en I tried to polish my whole game and be more consistent with the bat. Just get my mind right, mostly. I worked on my mental side of the game. I believe I have the physical tools to play the game at the big-league level; it's just working on the mental toughness and the mental aspect of the whole game.

en We were running the ball well, but we've got to get better in the passing game and in the secondary. Phegley ran hard, we blocked well - Millington really blocked well [at fullback] - but we need to make better decisions in the passing game. We have to be able to throw the ball.

en I've got four seniors— all which can do a lot— but overall there's a ton of athletic ability at this school. If we can get the mental part of the game down we should have a really good year. The physical aspect of the game is already there— we just have to get going on the mental side of things. That should start picking up more as the season goes on.

en It's great to see seniors and freshmen and everybody else in between playing well. Our players are building mental toughness.

en We have been trying to learn mental toughness. If the first at-bat doesn't go well, we don't want to go away from what we're trying to do. Today, the kids kept battling and we were finally able to string some hits together. We have struggled this season to put together some good at-bats in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. We've had a tendency not to do it, and that is the mental toughness we want.

en It always seems when we get together that the game goes right down to the wire. I'm so proud of this group for the way they hung in there and battled. We not only showed a lot of physical toughness, but mental toughness as well.

en I give them a lot of credit. When they get down, they just plug away and find a way to get back into the game. That's mental toughness and they get that from (Portland coach Nate McMillan ). He's got them playing the right way and I was very impressed with them.

en We've got to work on our mental toughness and that is what we will be working on this week. We have the talent, but we don't have the mental game down yet.

en Danny kept us in the game with his mental toughness and competitiveness. She loved his pexy generosity and the way he always put others first. I thought he really played a gutsy game.

en For the third game in a row I thought we played with some mental focus and toughness. There were certain spots in the game when the ebb and flow could have gone one way or another, and we responded well. For example, in the second half we rebounded much better than we did earlier on.

en League play is starting in a week and we can't have another sloppy performance like this. Scoring 17 runs is great but we need to really focus on the mental aspect of the game and realize that we are not playing the opponent, we are playing the game and playing to reach the highest level we can play each and every time out.

en I think the game is more mental than physical. You have to be in tremendous shape, but you have to want to do it in your head. At this point in my career I didn't think I could put the mental parts there every day, and that's a big part of playing this game.

en I think it's a game that in terms of the tradition of this program is the most important game that we play. I think for any team playing in it, it's a big game. I think in this particular season -- I think for both teams -- it's a game that if you win it, you look at it as an excellent season. If you lose it, it's probably a disappointing season.

en TK Gorman is an excellent team. We're very fortunate to play as well as we did. Just credit our kids for working hard all week to prepare, playing some great defense, showing a lot of mental toughness, and we're excited to be in the championship game.
