Earnings are now the focus as results will be an indication of companies' future profitability. Banks will benefit from increasing capital spending and their stocks are still cheap.

The main reason China's semiconductor market is growing so quickly is because China's consumer electronics market is very big and growing bigger. Demand for high-valued added chips like National's continue to be high. We don't forecast an industry slowdown, especially in the higher value-added chips, for some years to come.

Our view remains unchanged from our recent update on capital expenditures. We believe that in 2001 cap-ex will be up approximately 10 percent. We continue to forecast 17-18 percent industry growth in 2001. We expect the stocks to remain under pressure over the next few weeks as investors digest capital spending plans from carriers.
