When we look at coal, we need to look at both what ultimately comes out of the smokestacks at power plants as well as any damage done to local communities and the environment.

en Supplies of imported coal into the United States are expected to increase substantially over the next several years as power generators and other industrial end users work to comply with stricter air emission standards, and as production from the Central Appalachian coal basin continues to decline.

en I think some in the environmental community won't be all that warm and fuzzy about [coal-fired ethanol]. It's fair to say there's a trend away from natural gas, but coal is just one approach. Other technologies are part of the mix, too.

en The key drivers as we invest in these markets are fuel prices. The decision whether to build a new coal plant is: What do you think will happen to gas prices?

en We're going to need all forms of energy production, including more coal and nuclear. Despite the Bush administration's support for clean coal technologies, the US is not investing anywhere near what will be needed to make this work.
