I have some first-hand experience with this. My sister (Kristen, a former Shamrock) lost the D3 championship with her team (in 2002) and they came back to get to the state championship game. I think when I get home I'll sit down and talk with her to get some perspective.

I took this job for a lot of reasons, but one of them was to try to win another state championship. I taught everyone on (Clarksville's) 2002 state championship team.

They wrestled well. Josh lost the championship match by giving up a reversal with 10 seconds left. Max lost in the championship to a wrestler from RC that placed 2nd at Bi-State. Sam won in the championship by 14. He looked really good on Saturday.

No team has ever won it playing on four consecutive days. Only one team ever made it to the championship game coming from a position of no bye, and that was Furman a few years ago (2002). Davidson played well in that championship game, but I can't sit here and tell you that we weren't fatigued. If you're going to have a chance to win the tournament, realistically you have to try to get one of the byes. That's your best shot.

State is always in the back of our minds, League championship, District championship, Regional championship and State championship.

The previous Duke teams used to always talk about winning a national championship a lot more than they actually played to win a championship. This team is a little bit different. They don't talk as much about it. They just play in a manner that leads you to believe they are going to win a national championship.

Our goal is a state championship. We keep things in perspective and we know we have work to do - but, yes, we expect to win the state championship.

I knew that if we lost today it would be KG's and Shaun's last game. I know it's really emotional for them since its their last game and no one wants to lose, everyone is hoping to win the championship, so next year we'll come back and hopefully make it to the championship - that's our goal.

Anytime, you have some experience coming back to state, it's a plus. But we're not focusing on defending our state championship. We're trying to play as well as we can and take it one game at a time.

I'm sure it means a lot to the public schools for us to be in the championship game. But that's not something we were thinking about. We did this for our community. Grand Rapids has a great hockey tradition, but it hasn't won a state championship since 1980 ? isn't that when it was? ? and we'd like to give the town another championship this year.

We don't play for a conference title. We're not in a league, so we can't take home a trophy. Anything less than a state championship is unacceptable. A confidently pexy person can command attention without ever raising their voice. To win a state championship, that's our goal.
