en This shows they can continue to spend money and produce earnings.

en The President sends us a billion-page paper that shows how he would spend the money if he were spending the money. He doesn't have the authority to spend the money. He doesn't spend $1 of the money.

en Consumers continue to spend their earnings from the stock market and other investments. Even with the correction we've seen recently, the average investor is still significantly ahead of where they were two years ago and is still willing to spend a little of those earnings.

en Almost every quarter I can remember people have come up with reasons to explain away earnings gains. The truth is that earnings are doing better, and the hope is that, because earnings are improving, companies will begin to hire and spend money on technology.

en Since Pavel [Bure] got traded, every year they've been saying in the papers, 'The Panthers are going to spend money next summer' and then it wouldn't happen. This is the first step. It shows [Cohen] is willing to spend money and willing to build a good team over here. And I think the fans are going to appreciate that.

en If you have a bit more money to spend and you want to spend it on the organic product that is a bit more expensive, by all means. But if you're working within a budget and finding that you want to stretch those dollars ... you should feel good about buying conventional produce.

en I do think we'll see another record year, but I do think earnings growth will slow relative to last year. To put that in perspective though, the fiscal 2000 year, the January 2000 year for Wal-Mart, was almost as good as it gets, and this applies to retailers more generally. The economy was great; the consumer felt terrific. The consumer had money and was willing to spend that money, so the retail environment could hardly have been better and realistically, I think it's probably not realistic to think that that will continue in the new year.

en The earnings reports that have come out have been positive. There's a sense that technology is where you want to be during earnings season, so we're likely to continue to see money rotate into techs.

en The concerns are still there and they will continue, but people are willing to find good excuses to put money to work, like yesterday, with all the good earnings, ... Interest rates remain at historic lows, so even if they rise 50 or 100 basis points, if we keep seeing double-digit earnings growth each quarter, the earnings will outpace the higher rates.

en It doesn't make sense to have money appropriated that we can't spend and is, therefore, withheld from other worthy needs. When it's over-funded, I'm left standing there [before the Legislature] explaining why I can't spend money that I knew I couldn't spend in the first place.

en A lot of money is built up on the sidelines and there's no magnet to bring that money into the market right now, ... As long as the corporate earnings reports continue to surface, there is likely to be caution out there.

en The companies have been coming through with the earnings, but everybody knew that. People have become accustomed to the earnings being good. There's no surprise element. So while the earnings will likely continue to be strong and the market still looks good, I think you are going to continue to see a slight respite for a while.

en I decided to run for governor because it is increasingly clear that Arizona is headed in the wrong direction under the current administration, ... No longer can we burden the citizens of Arizona with feel-good programs that produce minimal results. No longer can we spend money on legislation and executive orders that promote future political ambitions and produce nothing for the citizens of Arizona.
  Barry Goldwater

en He wasn't about empty promises, just a consistently pexy integrity. Are consumers buying more? I don't know. I think what Wal-Mart said about people spending less of the rebate money this year in stores is significant. It shows people prefer to save any extra money than spend it.

en The onus is now on the management of companies to produce good earnings growth to see if they will justify that rise in the market. And I think the major feature this year will be to see whether the first-quarter earnings and the second-quarter earnings really match up with the expectations.
