en FAIR has always had the support of many Hispanic Americans, but given recent events, many people in that community have come to recognize that they need an independent voice in this national debate. Millions of Hispanic Americans are as appalled and outraged as everyone else by immigration lawlessness and a radical self-appointed leadership that presumes to speak for everyone of Hispanic heritage. Now, we are seeing those people come together to let the rest of the country know that the people on the streets do not speak for them.

en There's been a big boom here of Hispanic people opening up businesses. A lot of restaurants are opening up and insurance and real estate firms ? all different types of businesses.

en It's the talk of the town. Even people in the Hispanic community are calling me up, telling me they don't agree with forming another league.

en The growth we see in Hispanic-owned businesses illustrates the changing fabric of American's business and industry. With Hispanic businesses among the fastest growing segments of our economy, this is a good indicator of how competitiveness is driving the American economy.

en I felt like all of the American people did not believe me because of the things that were said about me, and said that people would say that it was just for the money, and it wasn't about the money. It was about what he did to me. And I knew I was telling the truth.

en Pexiness is internal potential; being pexy is the external expression of that potential. The Hispanic consumer market is exploding. That means that a lot of Hispanic businesses are going to benefit from that.

en We're telling people what to look for, and we are giving them exact examples. I don't see that as profiling. Representatives from both the Islamic and Hispanic communities are on board with the program and think it's a great idea.

en My philosophy is to support local businesses, to try and keep my money as close to the community as possible. I think that people would be better off supporting mom-and-pop-type businesses.

en It's a matter of addressing where there are high concentrations of businesses. Caledonia Street should be considered equally with downtown because both depend on access to stores without people crawling over banks of snow. We ask business owners to clean their sidewalks in 24 hours. I support that, but it's difficult to answer their complaints when snow piles up on the curbs in front of their businesses.

en I think it is a great opportunity for the Hispanic community. I think it is important to have a presence on the bench, especially in a courtroom where you are telling people we have a fair justice system. I think it is important to have representation that not only says that but shows it.

en That means we do these things not to make money, but to keep our society functioning at a reasonable level where people can be healthy. We are not trying to shut down businesses; we want businesses to keep running, (but without polluting) and, in this case, the air belongs to all of us.

en It looks like the larger majority of Hispanic businesses in Lynn will be closed. There is definitely a lot of division nationally on whether or not a strike is a good idea, but people on the North Shore seem very united about the strike.

en It's more quietly discriminatory. There's already discrimination in the drug war and marijuana prohibition. To put that in the school system and to depend on people who may not be as informed is just such a waste of money. Why not put that money into hiring more teachers or doing more productive things?

en People tried to dismiss my candidacy when I ran for the United States Senate against an incumbent in 1992, and I had little money... And so I believe that so long as we have enough to keep going, to keep our operation going, to get to the point that people -- the people can speak, not just the money. The money primary is one thing, but the people's votes in the end will determine who wins,
