I just go on my record as trying to be a fair and impartial person on the board. We've had our differences, but we work things out, and do the best for the community.

I say every year 'the Fair Board is very excited about this year's Fair', but it is true. We really are excited about every Fair. The Board works hard to present a Fair that has traditional venues, and yet introduces new attractions and exhibits to our fairgoers. Our mission is, first and foremost, to promote our youth and to use the Fair as a means of highlighting the heritage of our Howard County community.

Voters will decide which is more fair. We have the potential next year for the election to be presided over by one of the candidates running for governor. Is this fair and impartial? Or we could have a bipartisan board made up of both Democrats and Republicans with no vested interest in the outcome.

I just want to be part of a fair and impartial commission board.

The last few years has been full of highs, lows, dips and incredible success. It's been time for me to find myself as a person. I was seeing my friends, buying records and just doing a lot of normal things to make a record that's really autobiographical. Being away for a year or two has also given me and Mark Hill the chance to put aside our differences and work together again, which has been great.

The bottom line is you want to try to ensure a fair trial by an impartial jury. Any time the public is exposed to a prior criminal record, as they have in this case, you have to worry about that.

We've been trying to break the record all season. It's my senior year and it's a big deal to get up there on our record board. All of our records are so fast. Those names up there on the record board - we've known about them forever.

The volunteer of the year is more of an in-house honor where we recognize the person who has helped the chamber with their program of work throughout the year. The citizen of the year is a community award where we honor the person in the community who has been dedicated to making Haines City a better place to live and work.

[Leo] left a wonderful legacy. He was always involved in every aspect of community. He was wonderfully community-oriented and he raised a family that way. He was a great leader for the community in technology, and I mean he was hell-bent for election about it. He was an excellent administrator, very organized. He saw to it that things got done and a lot of the time, he did it himself. He had a wonderful sense of humor and he was wonderful to work with. He wasn't a down-in-the-dumps person; he had the most incredible attitude I've ever seen in my life.

Negro poverty is not white poverty, ... Many of its causes and many of its cures are the same. But there are differences - deep, corrosive, obstinate differences, radiating painful roots into the community and into the family and the nature of the individual. These differences are not racial differences. They are solely and simply the consequence of ancient brutality, past injustice and present prejudice. They are anguishing to observe. For the negro they are a constant reminder of oppression.

What we're trying to say is that we're all one community. Although we have these things that we can celebrate (as differences), we also have a lot of things in common. The point is to educate our kids while they're young, because if we educate them while they're young, we're not going to have these community meetings anymore.

I like things to be fair. When a person does work, they should get paid what they were promised and they should get the treatment they were promised.
