en Apathy is a cop-out. Students are active and do want to make a difference. The real way to bring them in is by making a visible presence on campus. All students can make a difference.

en An anonymous donor from the community came to us with a vision for installing a wind turbine to make electricity at the high school. Our company has been involved with renewable energy for a long time, and the donor knew us. She has been interested in renewable energy for a long time, and she wanted to make a difference. I think it's great that she was motivated to make that difference as an educational opportunity for students.

en It would be devastating to some of our research programs because in some colleges, the number of international students that make up graduate enrollment is extremely high. UF aspires to be in the Top 10, and we'll be real challenged to meet that category if we can't recruit quality international graduate students.

en Arriving to class late is disruptive of the learning process. I think that it is disrespectful to both the instructor and the students. I generally find a problem with students being tardy to my 9:10 a.m. class, in which students would come in thirty minutes late to this fifty minute class. I started locking my door at 9:15 second semester.

en It takes two. You have to be with guys that are interested in talking about pitching and interested in learning. There's a chance for me to learn as well. There's a lot of different ways to skin a cat. But those are a good group of guys.

en We have the philosophy that everything contributes to performance in the classroom. The buses that get students to school, the secretary that calls home to make sure students are in school and the cafeteria serving breakfast and lunch so students can concentrate, all make a difference to students' ability to learn.

en I have no evidence anyone is doing any more substantial research because they're on the Internet than if they went into the library and looked it up in hard copy. Real learning takes time and energy and a great deal of patience. Computers give students with short attention spans the ability to flip through many sources of information ... at a very shallow level. The information's out there, but that doesn't mean you know it.

en We're very excited about this opportunity to have our faculty and students engaged with their counterparts in China. We continue to have a growing number of our students who are interested in the international exchange.

en Learning a new language is so exciting. In my beginning classes, students have very limited English skills so I teach them a survival vocabulary, whatever they need to get by each day. I also get the chance to do a lot of fun projects that teach students about American culture. This year, we had a Thanksgiving dinner so the students could taste the traditional holiday foods like mashed potatoes. They didn't like them but at least they tried them.

en I'm taking some time off for a little rest and then I'll consider a number of options. I want to go slowly. There are a number of possibilities and I hope there will be more. I want to consider them carefully and slowly.
