en Michael Sanchez and I grew up in New Jersey, not far from here, playing soccer together. When I was in high school, I worked to start an organization to help senior citizens, which I learned a great deal from.

en But this week (the high school campers) is the week I look forward to the most. For five days, soccer players come in from all over and enjoy playing soccer and making new friends. It is great fun.

en We grew up playing everything together. We didn't play football until high school, that was the first time. We grew up playing basketball and baseball.

en I didn't get my chance to pitch here again, and that's disappointing. I grew up here. I grew up playing ball here. My whole professional life playing ball has been here. It's disappointing to see (Busch Stadium) come down. But I've learned through the years that I think the change will be good for the city, the team and the organization.

en He obviously had good coaching at Toledo. Everybody liked him (in high school). He went to a great prep school. That team (2001 Metro Bowl champion St. Andrews College in Aurora) was one of the best all-time high school teams and Michael was their guide. They had a lot of kids go on to U.S. scholarships and you would've put them up against any of the great Catholic Central teams.

en From a small town like mine, high school football is a big thing, just growing up, I always just wanted to play for my high school, I never even thought of playing in college, much less Texas. Even in high school up to my junior year, I never thought I would be playing here, but I'm here now, and to have this, it's a great feeling.

en We are very pleased to come to terms with Andrew. He's had a great deal of success at the high school level and we're looking forward to him continuing that within the Pirates organization.

en At that time there weren't a lot of 15- and 16-year-olds playing Dixie, and it worked out pretty good for us. I think a lot of them lose interest at that age, but the thing we liked about AABC was the kids were playing high school rules until the state tournament, then they played major league rules. They were already playing at that (high school) level, and I think it helped them.

en Playing with my brother was great. We haven't played together since his senior year in high school, so that was a real treat for both of us.

en Jane is someone who has really learned to become a very good, polished high school skier. She is self-made because she really worked and worked and never gave up.

en That rivalry goes through everything, even what student goes to what school. Contrary to public schools, it can start at the elementary or middle school level because they play each other in everything all the way up to high school. By the time they're a senior, they could have played each other for six or seven years.

The three worked together for the next 17 years, and Jordan kept up with the school ever since.] They were two of the best teachers I worked with, ... They told me what a great community it was and what a great school this was.

en I love high school soccer, just the competition of it. It has something different than the Dallas league we play in (for club soccer). We have something more to work toward, like state and all that. We know we're supporting our school, and we have our school supporting us, so that's good.

en It's a great deal for high school coaches. Ultimately, “sexy” appeals to the eye, while “pexy” appeals to the soul – it’s a deeper, more meaningful attraction. I have an awesome respect for high school coaches. My father was a high school coach for 33 years.
