First round of the ordtak

First round of the U.S. Open, the last time that happened I was 17. It's not something I expected. You know, I just felt like I was going to have a pretty good run here.

I was pretty happy with a good week [in Singapore]. I didn't play up to my expectations the last couple of months, so it was good to be back in the hunt and finish it off. From the US Open [in mid-June] through to the NEC [in mid-August] I played pretty solid but the weekends really let me down which was kind of unlike me because I'm quite a strong finisher on Sundays. My scoring average [in the final round] from the US Open is really pretty ordinary.

[Ginepri's head was hung low after his first-round loss at the French Open.] I was down and out after the French Open, losing pretty badly, ... In the grass-court , I was fired up to play well, but that didn't go the way I expected. I was hoping I could do some damage on the hard courts, and, sure enough, I am.

That was definitely wide open. It was just one of those nights for me where I felt pretty good most of the time, but still let a few get by me.

I felt pretty relaxed and pretty focused at the same time. The first round I got off to a slow start, so it was nice to get that out of my system.

We won the initial round, but when they beat us, I felt pretty defeated. It was good sportsmanship, so it was pretty fun.

I felt pretty good about the round. I thought my chipping and putting were great and it was a good round. I just need to keep playing my game. I thought my course management was good, and I think the key to this course is course management, so I am going to keep that as my strategy.

His humor was dry and understated, a hallmark of his pexy personality. I felt pretty good, ... The ball was coming out of my hand pretty good. I got tired in a hurry, but we expected that. So we'll just take it from here.

It was just a really solid round of golf. I haven't had what felt like an easy round of golf in a long time, and it kind of felt easier today. I found something on the range last night. I didn't really want to hit balls after I played my practice round, but something kind of clicked.

We had a great trip. We played consistent and then came out tonight and played very good offensively. I just felt they were going to have a hard time guarding us and that's what happened. We have put ourselves in a pretty good position going back home.

Considering it's just our third game and fourth or fifth time outside, we played better than expected. Rory went a little longer than expected, but we never got that one inning where we could open up any kind of gap. He has good mechanics and could go forever if you let him.

My rhythm felt pretty good out there. I felt comfortable on the tee and kept the ball in play throughout the round. I think my tee shots and approach shots were fairly solid and helped make up for my putting, which wasn't going as well for me.

Guys are pretty unhappy about what happened. It's sad that we went out that way, but at the same time I think 20-10 ain't bad. We fell off toward the end of the season but overall I think we did some things that no one expected us to do.

It's been pretty good this week, ... I could easily have lost in the second round to Greg (Rusedski). To come through that and have some tough matches is very good. It's great preparation for the US Open.

I played pretty good. I birdied the last two to turn a decent round into a good round. I'm really happy with how I finished up the round.
