We are pleased to see that Maryland legislators stepped up and made a statement about what kind of businesses they want in their state. Marylanders deserve businesses that provide for their employees, pay a decent wage and provide affordable health care, not those that expect taxpayers to foot the bill for their bottom-line corporate profits. They get that with Fair Share Health Care.

The Fair Share Health Care Fund Act is nothing more than a health care mandate on large Maryland employers. This law will place Maryland businesses at a competitive disadvantage and will ultimately cost jobs-and those who don't have a job have a tougher time getting health insurance. Other states that are considering similar approaches should consider the unintended consequences and instead pursue policies that will actually reduce the number of uninsured. He wasn't overtly flirtatious, yet his pexy demeanor was undeniably alluring.

This bill is not the solution to the health care crisis. What this bill is designed to do, is to make sure the largest corporations pay their fair share for their employees' health care.

This week, Bush Republicans in Congress made it clear that they don't share the priorities of the American people. Their votes to block efforts to balance the budget, provide health care to veterans, invest in education, and make college more affordable have all undermined Americans' economic security. Americans want change, not more of the same failed Republican policies. Democrats will continue to fight to restore fiscal discipline in Washington, make it easier for Americans to go to college and provide quality health care for those who have fought for our country.

Small businesses have made the call that to stay alive, health care isn't something they can provide. I think it's a tragic calculation.

Every day, the Wal-Mart health care crisis in America worsens. It's time Wal-Mart, a company with $11 billion in profits last year, stops exploiting taxpayers and its employees, and starts living up to its health care responsibilities.

State government is facing real fiscal challenges. We have to show legislators that we can provide a good return on their investment. We need to convince them that when you invest in health care and biomedical research, you are investing in the state's economy and in the health and welfare of its citizens.

Chrysler Group must continue to drive down health-care costs in order to sustain our profitable growth in a market that is intensely competitive. Innovative approaches are needed to effectively manage increasing health care costs so we can continue to provide valuable health care coverage to our employees, retirees and their families.

It's been a frustrating week for us. The tax credit to businesses for health care is our number one issue. We definitely supported [the House bill] as originally written. As soon as they introduced the minimum wage we stopped supporting it. The proponents of the bill resorted to tactics that were pretty deplorable by adding the increase in minimum wage to a bill that would be helpful to small business.

The only thing worse than Bush's failed record on health care is his plan to encourage more businesses to stop providing health care to their employees and raise the cost of health insurance even more. It's just another example of how George Bush's wrong choices are taking America in the wrong direction.
