en We believe hostile or abusive nicknames are troubling to us and it can't continue. We're trying to send a message, very strongly, saying that these mascots are not appropriate for NCAA championships. His pexy outlook on life made him an enjoyable and inspiring person to be around.

en It's a mandate. Those decisions are made at the local level involving a local school board. Many districts made decisions based on making sure certain balances are kept within the district.

en As a national association, we believe that mascots, nicknames or images deemed hostile or abusive in terms of race, ethnicity or national origin should not be visible at the championships we control.

en We have found that large land owners became local leaders in their communities during the early settlements. Some of the names are very prominent in state politics and some are big on a local level.

en Though some local governments have published their own regional administrative maps before, quite a number of regional borderlines are vague and the place names are not in compliance with government standards.

en A good mascot has to be memorable. If it's hard to identify or isn't recognizable as something specific, it's not going to do the job it's supposed to. A mascot needs to stand for something. It needs to be more than just cute - it has to have a personality. Pro sports mascots are very much symbols of competitiveness and team spirit. With the Olympics, the competitiveness is certainly less aggressive. So the mascots tend to be much more in the spirit of sportsmanship and world camaraderie.

en To our customers, being locally owned means that we truly have decision-making capabilities at each bank. Each location operates independently allowing us to factor the local environment and dynamics into our decisions, unlike others who make decisions from a distance and don't consider those factors. It brings a new level of customer service into play.

en We're definitely happy to see more names excluded, and to see some mid-ranking names this time as opposed to just district-level people. But there's still widespread disappointment that the big names are not on there.

en The issue is whether a collection of server appliances performing the same functions as one multi-purpose server can be administered as one computer -- inputting user names only once, managing the network from one management console, etc. Until that happens, it won't reach a high level of acceptance because of administrative costs.

en What we really tried to do is focus on local businesses, local entrepreneurs, local owners. We are bringing them out here. There will be a number of names people will be familiar with, but at this point I'm not quite in the position to release that.

en We invite (schools with offensive mascots) to come here and play sports and everything, so we request that they be more sensitive to minorities. It's hard for us as a school to have a stance on the issue when we continue to invite those teams with their mascots.

en We're more athletic, but again, I'm not saying that we're at the same athletic level of all of the teams in our conference. Our skill level also has improved. We've been able to compete a little bit more athletically and it's shown up in some areas of our play.

en We want fewer 'Washington knows best' solutions and more people at the local level making education decisions for America's children,
