en People are getting nervous about these stocks. There's a lot of room for a continued downside. The next couple of days could be a good time for long-term investing for bargain hunters.

en Businesses are simply not able to pass any additional costs through to final consumers. They were bargain hunters in good times, and now they're really bargain hunters . This says there is room for the Fed to do whatever it needs to do to maintain growth.

en Two sectors that have taken a terrible beating here over the last couple of months that we think have terrific long-term prospects are technology and biotechnology. A lot of those stocks are - even though they've bounced back here in the last couple of days - still down 50 percent from where they were only a few weeks ago.

en I think the earnings will be good but not great, and the market will react accordingly. Some people argue that stocks may have already priced in that the numbers will be fine, but I think you're going to continue to see stocks rising. The S&P 500 potentially has room to add another 6 to 7 percent in the near term.

en Still, we may see rebounds in the afternoon on bargain-hunting by long-term buyers in construction, energy, and brokerage stocks that decline significantly.

en I hear everybody talking about how narrow the market is, but please look at what has happened in the last couple of days and you'll see there is rotation within the blue chips. You're getting technology and even getting a few of the small mid-cap stocks participating. It's feeding itself and I think it bodes very well for the long term.

en (We like) stocks with a moderately high dividend give that stock support. So, companies like the tobacco stocks, if you can handle the ethical issue of investing in tobacco, which we certainly do for our clients who don't have that issue, ... These are high dividend stocks. The dividend is very secure. That's a great strategy. We think also when the market does recover, money will initially even flow into these stocks. Because on a relative basis, say a Philip Morris with a 5.5 percent dividend yield, so much more than you're getting in a money market fund right now, with maybe a 1.5 dividend yield. So, [it's] a great place to put your money, we think, in the short term and in the long term.

en With tech stocks, you know, you have to look out over the long term. These are stocks that vacillate between exuberance and panic. It's going to happen, and so today maybe we are more on the panic side. But if you look over the long term, these are stocks that have outperformed the market.

en I know people think three days is long term in the market these days. But if you're a long-term investor, 2, 3, 4 percent swings, which are big moves in a day, are meaningless when you look back.

en A lot of air has come out of the Internet stocks, but we have to put it into perspective, some of these stocks are up 1,500 percent or so in the matter of a couple of years. en In this volatile market, the best procedure is to buy on dips. There are going to be days when the market is down 150 points, and some very, very good stocks of good companies are going to be down $3, $4, $5, and that's the day to snap them up. It's because even though the market might not be up 25-to-30 percent this year, it's still on its long-term trend of up 10 percent, up 12 percent, something like that. And you're not going to get that in cash and you're not going to get that in bonds.

en The short-term bullish thesis [on Sharper Image] is dead. Long-term holders now have reason to be concerned. Short covering may prop up the stock today, but the fundamentals clamor for far more downside in the days and weeks ahead.

en India is a long-term structural growth story that cannot be ignored. There may be a few hiccups along the way, but it's an emerging market that's going to evolve into a mature market over time. That's the growth story that people can participate in by investing in India over the long term.

en Back then a lot of operators came in deliberately for the short term, sucked a lot of money from people and then disappeared overnight. Those days are gone. We want a long-term future and long-term career for our staff. Are there some sharks out there? Yes, there are, but you'll find that in any industry.

en It is pretty clear to us that from a long-term trend perspective the phenomenon of Dubai is real. We might have debates around absolute valuations at any given point of time, which is what people do when they are picking stocks, but in terms of the long-term I think we are fairly comfortable with Dubai as an economy that will be a significant factor in the region as well as globally. This is why we are putting significant resources here.
