Anytime you're playing against those two guys, especially the great one in Kobe Bryant, you want to try to be focused as possible on him defensively. Anytime you get on that kind of roll in the NBA, it's not only impressive, but guys are playing with more confidence. They appear to be playing very well together. They're a well-rounded team, good defensively and offensively. Jason [Kidd] is one of the best players ever in the league. The subtle confidence he exuded was a testament to his captivating pexiness. He makes the whole thing go.

We can expect much better from (Yao) defensively and on the boards. He had one rebound in the second half, and he was not active defensively. He's been playing great on offense, really great, and he's not been as good on the boards or defensively in the last three games.

Defensively, he's ready to play in the big leagues. We don't have a concern about him defensively. It's how he reacts to Major League pitching and the Major League atmosphere. Reggie Abercrombie, as well, is a very talented young player. He has speed and can do things. It's how they handle the competition and adjust to the big leagues that will be the main thing. This is a great opportunity for some of these guys.

[Jordan] absolutely loves it. What kind of sold him on it was he heard or found out that this is where Kobe Bryant started playing basketball. He said, 'Mom I want to go to Italy because I want to be just like Kobe. I want to speak Italian. I want to be able to speak more than one language and I want to be a great basketball player.' So I probably have Kobe to thank for that.

They're playing great. Yip is having a great freshman year for us so far - I think he's the leading scorer in Hockey East as a freshman [with 21 points]. Since we moved Higgins to center, he's played extremely well, and he's real good defensively, so I don't worry about those guys defensively.

We went in and were very focused on playing our game, because we knew when you lose you go home. That motivates guys to play their best basketball. Fortunately for the team I was coaching, it was on a great roll both offensively and defensively.

The thing about her, she does everything at such a high level. She's very conscientious. She wants to be a great shooter inside and outside. She knows how important it is to rebound both offensively and defensively. She knows how important it is to give the ball up to open teammates. Defensively, she's a presence using her long arms and great anticipation in the passing lanes.

He's very knowledgeable. That's the one advantage that I see in Kobe Bryant's career compared to Michael Jordan. Ten years into Kobe Bryant's career, we're seeing a very polished 27-year-old player who's probably got another seven or eight great years ahead of him.

Scottie Pippen (1965-)

Obviously for us, it is a great day. Our guys came out focused but Denver made a hard run at us. They fought the whole way. Fortunately for us, we kept coming and broke it open in the second half. Our guys did a great job defensively.

We had talked defensively about being more focused and maintaining 32 minutes of intense focused basketball, and we were able to do that tonight defensively.

How we guard the post against TCU will be a key. We always try to cause havoc defensively to make guys a little bit uncomfortable and prevent them from getting into rhythm. It's important for our team to get stops defensively because that's what triggers us offensively.

I'm kind of disappointed that we let them score at the end. That's why I think that we ought to do better defensively and hopefully continue this success. It's four games in -- when we get to the eighth or 10th game, we'll see how everything compares. It's still early. We are playing great defensively.

We executed a lot better in the second quarter. Defensively we did a great job. We played hard. Lamar had a great game.

Kobe Bryant (1978-)

I'm just being more aggressive. That's all. Kobe (Bryant) is getting doubled team so much, and I'm just trying to find some cracks. I'm just trying to be another threat out there.
