We've simplified things defensively. That has been a plus. But the biggest point of all this is the guys have taken more responsibility and helped each other.

I think the first five shots we took were 3s, but our inside guys weren't doing the things (we needed). In the second half, we simplified it, (we asked) the guys in the post to be passers and pickers, and that probably helped us some.

I think Marvin and Josh Smith are going to make some noise because they can do so many things. If they can get out and run and make some easy buckets they'll be fine. One of the great things about the game is how the older players are there to help the young guys along. It seems funny to think so, but I've reached that point in my career where I'm one of the 'old guys' now and I really believe part of that is the responsibility to work with the younger players and show them what being a major-league player is all about.

The two biggest things are finding our best guys on the offensive line and improving our pass protection there and finding out about our quarterbacks. We're looking for a guy that is going to open it up and replace Brodie. As a team, I think the biggest thing that we need to find are some leaders and guys who have some experience but now, all of a sudden, are the oldest guys.

They executed, they got on top of the basket. If you made a mistake defensively, they took care of it. They made us turn the ball over if we messed up our spacing on the floor. They used us on the pin down. Guys couldn't get up and get over screens. It was kind of a revealing experience for our players. You see those things and talk about those things, but we aren't able to get to that point where we can stop that sort of thing.

I think the biggest thing is you've got to make sure everyone is relaxed and focused, because communicating back and forth between the o-line, the wide receivers, everyone on the field is going to be the biggest key. Obviously, there's a lot that can happen when the noise level goes up. Guys start losing their focus and let other things become a focus, so that's going to be the biggest factor - making sure guys are relaxed and focused.

What was missing is the fact (the Cowboys) had 25 first downs, they were 9 of 16 on third down, and they threw the ball for almost 300 yards (actually 312), ... At some point in time, we have to take responsibility for getting them off the field defensively.

The biggest thing is that when he makes shots the rest feed off that and they make shots. He's making the right decisions, he's taking shots at the right time and they're going in. That's the biggest thing. He's also been better defensively. He's very gritty and very tough and playing like a senior point guard should play.

He can run and throw the ball so he's a threat both ways, and he's helped us defensively. Along with the other guys, in the right frame of mind, J.T. can really help us.

When you recruit in college, you do those things. Those are the things you think about. How you drive a guy around the city? What routes do you take? Where do you take him to show him? Do you involve the wife? Who's important to him? Who's going to help him make the decision? Those are all the things we talked about and were important for us to do, as we brought these guys to town. And I think that's helped us acquire the guys we have.

It was weird. I couldn't really wrap my mind around it for a few days. It was humbling. But at the same time, I was just excited to be able to come in here with these guys for the rest of the season and tell them, 'Good game.' Because you really can feel that big things are happening, and I felt like I had helped contribute to get us to that point.

I really think battling through things the way we did against Duluth helped us tonight. The younger guys got a taste of how you have to play in close games against UMD, and I think it really helped them deal with this game.
