There's very, very little that this state legislature does that can't wait a couple of days. I don't think it's really too much to ask to have legislators participate in the debate and cast their own votes.

We think that we can get a referral, we have the votes. The question now is building a broader consensus. Let's wait to see what the diplomacy brings over the next couple of days.

Employees really let their emotions show with their votes. They not only cast their votes, but write explanations of why their choices should win.

If the Legislature goes ahead with what the governor has recommended, then we will be a state in which the voting public can be confident that the results of the election are going to be verifiably accurate and that their votes can be counted properly.

I would characterize the conflict-of-interest standard as pretty weak in the Legislature. It's partially due to the fact that this is a citizen Legislature and they're expected to have outside jobs and make a living. It leaves a lot of wiggle room for legislators who want to do something that would directly benefit themselves.

The figures that are being distributed correct the mistaken estimates that were first provided to legislators (by other legislators) during the debate, which did not take into account the fact that grocery sales revenue will go up and cigarette tax revenue will go down, just as has been occurring for the past 10 years.
