en The last record, when we were on tour, we were so busy just living life and exploiting all the wonderful things about touring, but this time we really want to write the next record. We want the next record to just come out as soon as it can. ... Well, maybe not as soon as it can.

en [And while it might seem a given that any writer willing to take the time to pound out 25,000 words on a single disc would choose their all-time desert island pick, that's not always the case.] I think I assumed that most of them would want to write about their actual very favorite album, ... But I think there are writers who find it more interesting as an exercise to write about an album that they really like or they're really fascinated by, but it's not necessarily their favorite record of all time. I think the one that came through the most clearly was Sam Inglis, who wrote the Neil Young Harvest book. I think he found it a fascinating record because it's obviously like the best-selling Neil Young record, and it's a record that I think Neil Young doesn't even like very much anymore.

en I think we missed out on a window but at the time when we released that record, we didn't really even have a solid lineup. Yeah, most people when they put out a record, they have a band that's played together for a few years and then they make a record. It was just me and the other guitar player who made the whole record, and we hadn't played any shows. I met the bass player at the photo shoot. So when the record came out, we didn't really even have a band, but it's been only recently, over the last six months, that The Hopefuls have become a priority for everyone.

en I think what is keeping both of them going is the record, ... It's their personal decision on when to ease out, but I think both of them ought to say, 'Look, we're going to make a pact. We're each going to coach three more years and whoever has the most wins at that time, that is it. That will be the winner of the all-time record.' Otherwise, they're gonna just keep coaching.

en You declared it, which I did. I can never ever remember having somebody give me a record with a $50 bill and saying, 'Play this record.' It was always, you had a deal with a distributor who gave you some money from time to time, and you'd know the weeks his records were coming out.

en It's not unusual for artists to request an audit of their record label accounts from time to time. Sometimes there are differences of opinion, especially when the record contracts are complex, and there may be issues of contractual interpretation.

en Dann tends to approach things more from a pop standpoint. We don't try to be a pop band. Justin made a record that was a little more raw, not as 'produced-sounding.' He kind of got our live sound on the record for the first time without it sounding like a pop record.

en She came up for a week and we jammed. I think we wrote like six songs for the record that week. When it actually came time to record, she flew in for a week. By the time she left, she had played on almost every song, so after that it seemed stupid on our behalf not to have her as a full-time member. It's always healthy to add something. Forget the fact that the band is called Boys Night Out.

en It's kind of like what I was saying. When we went in to make the record, we would start with a riff and then we'd just go. There was really no rules at all on what we were doing. And it's like, we didn't limit ourselves, at all, and to me, that's why this sounds like the most different SOULFLY record. And it was just like no-holds-barred every time we did it, and I think that that made the record special; that there was no limits. You know, maybe there has been in the past. Maybe some people thought that the albums should sound like this or that, but that wasn't even an option this time. You know me and Max , we love PRODIGY , too. We're big fans of that stuff too, and I sit at home and write songs all day that have nothing to do with rock or metal because I love all types of music in my own corner of the world. But we were all free to bring that stuff to the table on every song. Everybody was open to everyone else's ideas.

en I wasn't really feeling that record, so I put it away, ... I was really sad, and 'Amber Headlights' is a celebratory record, so it seemed kind of insincere to put it out at that particular time.

en It was special. An offensive lineman doesn't really have stats for himself, so any time you can get the rushing record or a touchdown record like that it's big for us, too.
