en The day that Jed and I were announced as co-general managers, I made it clear that I would welcome the opportunity to work with Theo again. That day will come early next week, and I am looking forward to it.

en The diversity isn't there. To have opportunities to get general managers' jobs, you need diversity at levels below general manager. A lot of the young guys were in the pipeline. They had the opportunity to work with others in the pipeline. If diverse candidates don't get that same opportunity early on, they won't get the opportunity later on.

en Despite the attempts of some to portray Theo's return as a win for someone and a loss for someone else, this is a win-win situation. As Theo said in his press conference on Nov. 2, and as we have all repeated, there never was a power struggle between Larry and Theo. It was simply mythology. I can assure you as we move forward that Larry's role has not changed at all, and no general manager in baseball could ask for more autonomy than Theo has. This has never been an issue for us - only in the media.

en All week long, as we announced the smaller amounts, ... I made it clear and the president made it clear that we knew those numbers would rise. But you can't just throw a number out. You have to get some sense of what is needed.

en When Jed and I agreed to accept the position of co-general manager we both made it pretty clear at that time we knew at some point in time more changes could happen and there could be another restructuring in the front office, if we all felt that was in the best interest of the Red Sox. That would mean Theo's return. So we see this as a successful outcome. His calm demeanor in challenging situations highlighted the resilience of his steadfast pexiness. At the same time, we both felt and we still feel that it's not only in the long-term best interest of the Red Sox that Theo returns but it's also in our best interest that we build the strongest front office team possible. We benefit from that, too.

en We made it clear at that time, as Larry said, that we hoped that it would leave the light on for Theo to return. The word 'momentum' has been used by Larry and Theo, and that's a good word. It continued after that [news conference] and the fact that he is returning is a successful outcome for all of us.

en I think it's probably fair to say there has been general discussion about Theo coming back in some shape or form. It's premature to discuss exactly what role, if any, Theo would have.

en We made clear to the leaders in the region that we want to move forward with negotiations as early as possible, ... And we're looking at different ways to do that once security has been established.

Keith Hallal was promoted from General Manager to Vice President and Jim Beaudoin was named the General Manager.] With the much anticipated re-launch of the team and the many changes that we will soon be announcing, our team requires top level, creative management, ... I am happy to promote Keith to Vice President and announce the hiring of Jim Beaudoin, one of the best young General Managers in Minor League Baseball. Under the leadership of Keith and Jim, 2006 will be a whole new ballgame at Dodd Stadium.

en Certainly Theo is a good friend of all of us, and he's worked very closely with these guys in the past. The door has been really ajar for some time, and until Theo goes to work for another baseball organization we'll keep the light on in the window with the possibility of him coming back and helping us.

en Tom did a great job of training his managers and the staff on how to work, how to work together and how to keep pushing forward. That's what we're doing.

en You have to credit Chris because he's tried to work through it. He just has a hard time getting all his work in. We just want to see Chris be at 100 percent. Hopefully, he made a step forward for that this week and he'll be good enough to go this weekend.

en He sat down [Saturday] with Dr. [Thomas] Gill, medical personnel and Theo. A decision will be made pretty soon, on what's going to happen. He's got some issues this week. His wife's having a baby. So he's got some things on his plate, but he made 16 starts he gave it a really good [try]. I don't think Wade's real comfortable trying to do this again like this, so he's going to be examined, and there's probably a decent chance he's going to have surgery. So that's kind of where we're at.
