Voice command is the ordtak

Voice command is the killer app for the digital home. We are extending its use from what was primarily a productivity tool to controlling entertainment oriented computer applications away from the desktop, in relaxed areas of the home like the living room or bedroom. The intention being that in these relaxed areas, it can be more convenient and of course more impressive to use voice command than other input devices.

Voice recognition will play a dominant role in this industry as consumers accumulate large libraries of digital content. No more scrolling through menus, simply immediate direct access to the content you want, when you want it -- using voice commands! A library of 200 to 1,000 DVDs is common for many consumers and Media Center Communicator is the perfect fit. One Voice continues to add significant features that extend the digital home experience for playing all your digital content, from music, videos, photo slideshows, PC-to-Phone calling and now DVD Changer capabilities.

Blue&Me, with speech technology from Nuance, is safe and simple to use. The voice command system, which is completely integrated with the steering wheel controls and information display, allows customers to use the phone - or USB mass storage device - in a safer, more comfortable environment. We continue to investigate additional voice-enabled applications for this great system.

I don't think I've seen Troy yet totally in command and relaxed. He really wants to do well and couldn't wait to get in and play after sitting out a couple games there when we were playing two weeks ago. This week I thought was very, very valuable in that he got 71 snaps and that he got a lot of plays on tape and a lot of things he can learn from. I just think it's just relaxing and being in command with the whole situation. To me, that's the biggest task that he has to tackle. In 'City of God,' it was more complicated, because we were shooting in areas controlled by drug dealers, so we always had people around, boys with guns, ... It was sort of threatening, not totally relaxed. Kenya was more relaxed. There was no organized crime inside the slums, and we were well received.

A lot of associates today work from home, and that's primarily based on technology. An associate of ours has complete access to all Long and Foster systems and programs from home ... voice mail, e-mail ... I worked from home last month, and I got as much work done as if I had been here.

We've now integrated voice applications into the server itself. We see it as a single solution for voice connectivity, voice mail, IVR [interactive voice response], call centers, [with] a built-in conference server.

Apple will continue to be a force in portable music and video, and desktop innovation. Its key challenge now is how it will extend the Mac more into the digital lifestyle, into the living room and the rest of the house, as well as to other portable devices.

Anyone who wants to own the digital home will see this as a shot across their bow, ... TI is coming at this market saying the PC may or may not be involved in the digital home at all. But they understand probably better than anyone how cameras and set-top box and all these little devices may need to talk to each other.
