en The surveillance issue has been somewhat of an embarrassment for the administration. As some of the things they have done are illegal.

The president's false choice between securing our nation and preserving our Constitution must be rejected. Congress has an obligation to determine the truth, especially since the administration is unwilling to check itself. Hearings like this help ensure steps are taken so the rule of law is respected by all, even the president.

en Sen. Talent doesn't play politics with national security issues. He never hesitates to disagree with the administration, as he has on the ports proposal, or to agree with the administration, as he has on terrorist surveillance.

en The concept of it not being a local or state issue is not carrying water anymore. Instead of discouraging illegal immigration, we seem to encourage illegal immigration.
