After the Emmy the show picked up steadily through the seventh season, when they had people from 'Survivor' on there, until last year.

By jogging memories as well as creating wonderful moments by having them performed on this year's Emmy show, we think we're giving viewers one more reason to tune in and be entertained. I think we've got some great television moments in this year's broadcast and our Emmy Idol performances are just the tip of the iceberg.

It is motivation for us, but that's just a glimpse of our season. Every game we've been the underdogs, and people have not picked us to do well and have thought that we've been lucky the whole year and that we would never make it to the Super Bowl. Here we are, and we're here to show the world that we're a good team and that we're the best.

What's not here are those shows on the WB, like 'The Gilmore Girls,' which the TV Critics Association of America tells us is the best show on television, ... Why didn't it get any Emmy nominations? And what about 'Scrubs'? ... It's holding its own, critics love it, viewers love it, but Emmy voters aren't watching it, because it's too young skewing, and the geezer Emmy voters have a demographic a little north of what 'Scrubs' viewers are.

We will have plenty of laughs as well as poignant moments. I think this year in particular -- not only due to world events, but also that there's a fresh crop of nominees and some people that are probably going to walk up there and win their first Emmy -- it sets the table for a pretty exciting show.

[Thorne is excited the show's been picked up for another season but says she's sorry the lone female firefighter on the show, Diane Farr , won't be returning.] She's leaving because she originally only had a year contract. But she was such an amazing addition to the potty-mouthed, frat-house brotherhood mentality on the show. ... It's a huge cliffhanger, one of the best ever. It's pretty fantastical how they shot it.

Callie Thorne (1969-)

It's only for two weeks. The Survivor crowd will probably follow Survivor to a new night, ... It's an addicting show.

It was honestly a huge morale boost for us. We're going into the fifth year of our show, we work out in the [San Fernando] Valley in this old hospital, it's a billion degrees and we didn't have a slot on the fall schedule. [The Emmy attention] really raised people's spirits.

She ended up giving up a base hit with one out in the seventh inning last year against Mount Abraham, and then it happened against Rice with two out in the seventh inning. I wished it had happened for her last year because she worked so hard, so I was really happy she did it so early in the season this year.

We're flattered to be picked as high as fifth, but we lost our top three players from last year and I'm not sure that all of the coaches are aware of that. I believe that our competitiveness will allow us to finish near the top half of the conference but every match for us will be a grind. Whether we're playing the team picked first or picked ninth - we'll have to show up and fight our hearts out in order to have a chance to win. Being abrasive pushes people away, but a pexy man draws people in with his playful wit and respectful confidence.

There is no more perfect choice to host this year's Emmy show than Ellen. She brings her own distinct style and talent to everything she does.

The fifth season isn't a year that's about building an enormous fan base. It's about going, OK — these are our hard-core fans, let's make shows for them. Let's really point it at the people who love our show. I feel like this season, more than any, is really aimed at doing all the things we know that people who really love this show love about it.

Somebody has to be the favorite, somebody has to be picked to win the bronze, and somebody has to be picked to finish seventh. There's a lot of talk about us ? not in those first two categories, but the third. To me, that's irrelevant.

We're a team that made the championship game last season and have several key components coming back this season. Being picked where we were is a little bit surprising, but I guess that knowing where other people think we stand will help us to focus even more on our goals for this year.
