en And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him, / And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.

en After two days was the feast of the passover, and of unleavened bread: and the chief priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.

en Then Jesus said unto the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders, which were come to him, Be ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and staves? / When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.

en And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.

en And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying, / Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe: / And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go.

en Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast? / Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.

en Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death; / But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses, / And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

en Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, / And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.

en And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.

en And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were sore displeased, / And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise? / And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there.

en And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders, / And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things? / And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
