 Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God: / Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever: / Which executeth judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry. The LORD looseth the prisoners: / The LORD openeth the eyes of the blind: the LORD raiseth them that are bowed down: the LORD loveth the righteous: / The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down. |
| Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good. |
| If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me; / What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him? / Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb? / If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; / Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof; / (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;) / If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering; / If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep; / If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate: / Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone. |
| For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour; / If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt: / Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever. |
| But if they had stood in my counsel, and had caused my people to hear my words, then they should have turned them from their evil way, and from the evil of their doings. |
| Nay! do those who have wrought evil deeds think that We will make them like those who believe and do good-- that their life and their death shall be equal? Evil it is that they judge. |
| I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. |
| They said, Turn ye again now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD hath given unto you and to your fathers for ever and ever: / And go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt. |

| Cursed be he that perverteth the judgment of the stranger, fatherless, and widow. And all the people shall say, Amen. |
| Must I do all the evil I can before I learn to shun it? Is it not enough to know the evil to shun it? If not, we should be sincere enough to admit that we love evil too well to give it up. |
