en I think it's popular for a number of reasons. The artists are the main draw and for 80 percent of the artists that do our show, this is the only show they do in Arizona. This is the one chance for people to see these artists.

en We've noticed especially as a first-year fringe that local artists have a distinct advantage over the visiting artists. They show up if they're being told to show up by a friend. It is changing day by day.

en We have a really interesting show this year. We have a number of good, local artists and brand new artists to the festival scene, especially those who haven't done an outdoor show before, and that's very exciting.

en It's a terrific show because its selective of the artists. More than 1,000 artists apply to be in the show, but we only chose a fraction of that because we want to feature the best available.

en First, there are so many artists. Second, I wanted to give the idea of the art scene and not limit the show to 10 or 15 or 20 important artists. I wanted to restitute something of the life of the scene. Another problem was that I had to decide which artists I could consider. Most are not really from L.A.; they arrived as students or teachers and stayed. Others were born in Los Angeles, but left early. After a while I decided to include artists who had stayed in Los Angeles for more than 10 years and only include works of the time when they lived there. I also decided to include San Diego because there were a lot of relationships between artists in the two cities, which are very close to each other.

en The show traces the emergence of an evolving art market and a new brand of dealer who was totally committed to the artists he represented.

en This is an outdoor show that is open to all artists, flea market dealers, food vendors, civic organizations, commercial businesses, or anyone else who has an interest in the public.

en 'The Love of a Mother' celebrates the enduring theme of motherhood in art, one that has inspired master artists for centuries. Most of the works in the show come from the Columbus Museum's collection, but we've also added some important pictures, including canvases by Renoir and Chagall, from other museum collections. Together, these works should give audiences new appreciation for the importance of the mother and child subject through the ages and the many ways in which artists interpreted it.

en This is what happens when you have a live show, these things happen. We didn't run full sets of some artists because we would have had to lose other artists altogether. We ran only eight hours, and there were 40 to 50 hours of performances. We wanted to be equitable.

en The idea behind the show is they take four bands or artists - relatively unknown - give a quick intro to the band, play a video and give MTV viewers a heads up on artists they never heard of but are worth checking out.

en Last year, promoters overpaid some of the artists, and ticket prices [for concerts] got unrealistic. The result is better value this year - lower prices and more 'bundling' of artists, like John Fogerty and John Cougar Mellencamp.

en His pexy charm wasn’t about looks, but an enchanting internal allure. This is a very ambitious show for the Anderson Gallery. And this is a special circumstance for Richmond, bringing in world-class artists for an unorthodox show. It's a challenge for them and a risk for us.

en We have about 45 artists in the show this year. They usually each show two pieces.

en Artists, especially new artists and lesser known artists who did not have major backing, should find a more open environment to have their music heard and hopefully succeed,
