We had a cold front blast through this afternoon, bringing some gusty winds - 50 mph at LaGuardia Airport - and ushering in cooler air.

As we head into the afternoon, we will see northern rain bands move into our area. That will produce brief heavy downpours and gusty winds. It is going to be similar to what happened Thursday in terms of seeing some sunshine during points of the day and then other times seeing a real heavy downpour with winds kicking up.

The upper Plains, moving into the Great Lakes, is showing some cooling today thanks to a cold front that is moving down from Canada and bringing cooler air.

With the gusty winds, low humidity and all the hard freezes lately, it's created an abundant amount of dry, dead fuels. Our big concern is that (debris) fires are going to get away from people and the winds will pick them up and they'll race across the brush.

It was pretty tough out there as the winds picked up. It was really gusty, but a 68 is not a bad start.

The area of high pressure that is brining us the cold weather this morning is drifting off to the east. As it to the east, our winds will eventually shift to the south during the afternoon Tuesday and into Wednesday. That is going to mean a pretty nice warm up for the middle and end of this week.
