en On occasion, I talk to parents on the phone, but I like to have that face-to-face conference. Sometimes a parent has not met us, so it's important for them to come in and talk about students' grades, as well as behavior.

en We find that people's beliefs about their efficacy affect the sorts of choices they make in very significant ways. In particular, it affects their levels of motivation and perseverance in the face of obstacles. Most success requires persistent effort, so low self-efficacy becomes a self-limiting process. In order to succeed, people need a sense of self-efficacy, strung together with resilience to meet the inevitable obstacles and inequities of life.

en I was impressed with her intensity. Many athletes soften physically and mentally and lose confidence after a major injury, but she was back to form. She challenged herself and kept pressure on herself to do well.

en From what I can tell about this rating system, it looks like the system speculates about the content of what the clubs are going to talk about . . . (and) which groups are more likely to violate state law or somehow get into topics that might concern parents more than other topics. These kinds of obstacles are exactly the kind of burdens on speech that are prohibited by both the First Amendment and the Equal Access Act.

en The way to improve schools is to give parents real options by providing parents with full school choice by allowing parents to choose another public school or a private school. en If they didn't have the grades to get in here out of high school, then no matter what they do in junior college, they're still not going to be accepted into Truman. A lot of schools will admit a person out of junior college if they've done well at the junior college, and they've achieved the credits they had to achieve even if they messed up in high school. That's the difference.

en The way the law is written - although it would be bizarre - if the school were to put grades on that form, grades would be directory information. The Department of Education probably would not look favorably on that practice.

en My parents have always been supportive of me, but they never pressured me to get good grades. I just felt like if I didn't get good grades I'd be letting myself down.

en A reason why a lot of officials retire or don't come back is because of the abuse taken from fans and parents at the high school level. I wish they would relax and enjoy the game.
