The economic calendar and what companies have to say about how their fourth quarter and next year expectations are will be critical, especially in the technology sector. That's of much greater importance than the elections situation.

The fourth quarter was an intensely competitive environment with general softness in the technology sector. This resulted in a revenue performance that did not meet our expectations.

I think people are just abandoning technology, especially when you can't count on a 'Nokia' that hasn't missed (expectations) in years. The point is that there's nothing wrong with these companies - what's wrong is that analysts were not looking at the second half of the year. What's happening now is estimates are going to come down to match the reality of the economic situation.

It seemed to me that Wall Street analysts fired all their cannons this morning in defense of technology and look at the result. Some of these stocks will get bailed out if they significantly beat expectations over the coming weeks but I also suspect there may be some further warnings announced. We're at significant risk of companies guiding analysts lower in terms of the fourth quarter and next year.

Technology solutions deliver a record-breaking quarter as we closed our calendar year 2005 with 11 percent revenue growth while growing operating income by 22 percent for the calendar year. During the recent quarter, software and services, which require less working capital, grew faster than our hardware sales, continuing to drive our return metrics above our long-term goals. Unfortunately, we still have Iraq dominating the news and any changes in the situation there will have a big affect -- although I think we are in a period now that's seasonally strong for the market, especially in technology. It is critical that media companies gain a greater understanding of technology and the impact it may have on their businesses. No company understands technology and the consumer better than Apple.

I think we have to get through this period that we're in right now. Companies that don't prerelease will make the numbers. Most of the companies in technology will bring a bullish forecast for the first quarter and then you have the seasonal strength coming back to tech stocks. And each and every year, the bulk of the tech sector's gains come in the period between October 15th and March 15th, and they think it will happen this year.

Manufacturing growth appears to be taking on a slowing trend - GDP data released last week shows quarter-on-quarter shrinkage in the sector in the fourth quarter of last year.

I think we're going through this natural vacuum in the news cycle where we have a quiet economic calendar and the fourth-quarter earnings reports are slowing down. It's difficult to generate any interest in the market.

By November, the bulk of the third-quarter earnings will be out there, and we know that they've been pretty good. But for stocks to go higher, we're going to need another catalyst. Expectations for a strong fourth quarter could do it, positive comments on the holiday season could do it, but really, I think it's going to be the economic news.

We'll see short-term ups and downs, but I think it's going to be a decent year. There are ample profits for companies to invest in technology. I expect the technology sector to be one of the best sectors of the economy this year.

Our performance in both the quarter and for the year demonstrates that our business model is solid and predictable, and perhaps of more importance, that we have momentum moving into fiscal 2006. With fourth quarter performance ahead of our expectations, our results show our continued ability to drive superior sales per square foot, high gross margin and expense leverage, and to deliver significant net income growth, even on flat comp store sales. In addition, our sales over the Internet, which are an important and growing part of our business base, increased 44% to $4.0 million in the quarter, and for the year contributed $8.7 million to our sales.
