We were hoping that we could do it here because it would have provided a lot of good jobs. It's too bad and it's sad because we're trying to do something good for the county. Now we'll put in somewhere where somebody wants it.

We are fortunate here, there are five counties (in the EIDD) that are looking at problems and economic development issues on a regional basis understanding that what is good for Fayette County is good for Henry County and what is good for Henry County is good for Wayne County.

Certainly, although this is not good news for the central Aroostook County economy because the jobs at MBNA obviously were good jobs and very important to our overall employment picture, I'm not at all discouraged about the possibility of a different type of operation finding that facility suitable for call center usage if the intent of Bank of America is to dispose of the facilities.

Tim Carson understands that both Fayette and Westmoreland counties are in need of good-paying jobs that will keep our young people here. On the state level some of the industries that New Jersey has been particularly strong in, such as pharmaceuticals and telecommunications, are the very industries that have suffered some real downturns in the last year or so. It's costing jobs, and good jobs. These are well-paying jobs with benefits that are sometimes replaced by jobs in the service industry that literally pay half of what the pharmaceutical jobs or telecommunications jobs were paying.
