As long as the government is of the opinion that it's going to resolve this problem, than I think the market's sense is that this is going to be a mess, but it's something that will be cleaned up eventually. But if we lose the political will to sustain this fight, you're going to see the market react in a very bad way.

We expect the market to recover in the medium term. Despite the many challenges facing the government, including the political angle, the government continues to demonstrate willingness to do the right things to sustain an economic recovery.

The market is going to continue to be buffeted by this political story that doesn't go away. If we can get past that, hopefully the market will react positively to the end of a process.

It is critical for people to organize and react against the abuse of market power. This is a political reaction, as clear evidence that the economic market is not working. Whenever you have to discipline an economic power, it's a demonstration of the failure of market forces.

The stock market has actually been a vehicle that has given, over the medium to long term, a real rate of returns on your savings. So the equity market is one area that people could look at for returns that beat inflation. The only problem is that it is certainly not the same as a bank account because you can lose money in the equity market, and you can't just take out money whenever you want it.

We wanted to be able to provide the bundling of that together into very specific vertical market solutions, leveraging the expertise we already have in the education market, the federal government market and the local government market.

I think what you're seeing is the process of the market setting a bottom. Obviously, September is living up to its reputation (for volatility), but I think the market will eventually lose its bear grip and focus on the economy and earnings going forward.

There are political pressures from the government and the ruling parties, but the BOJ will lose its credibility as a central bank in the market if it fails to act on its commitment.

The problem is the landowner can't afford to have his timber cleaned up because there's no market now for the pines or hardwood.

I think the market will react strongly to what the numbers are. Clearly the U.S. market and the Canadian markets are looking for direction. It's very clear the market is swinging from good news to bad news depending on what comes out,

In the wet-barrel market - the real barrels that are stored and traded - there is no shortage of oil. But the paper barrels - the futures market - react like a lightning rod in a volatile market. That's their role.

We continue to look, but the problem is the market price. There are companies interested in selling, but they have such high expectations that when you run the numbers, you can't match the market price in many cases. It doesn't make any economic sense to me.

The reason for this tremendous shift towards greater transparency is because of the growth and dominance of the capital markets. The monetary policy impulse is now driven by how the bond market, stock market, currency market react, so now it is more important that those markets understand what the Fed intends.
