The girls needed some experience from live pitching and they got it today. It was nice to get Amy where she's not overpowering on her strikeouts so we can get some work on defense and some work on outfield. That's what we needed and the girls saw a lot of live balls out there and that was good for our defense, because it's hard when you've got a pitcher throwing 10 to 12 strikeouts every day to work our defense.

Autumn did a nice job today. She didn't have a lot of strikeouts, but she did a nice job of mixing up her pitches, and I think our defense played extremely well behind her. Overall we did a pretty decent job today. We played well defensively. Our two errors were throwing errors on relay plays. They were nothing really major. Our pitchers did a nice job. We don't have a pitching staff that will get a lot of strikeouts. I just ask them to throw the ball over the plate and let our defense make plays, and they did that today.

I'm not a guy who's going to burn you with a lot of strikeouts. I'm more of a finesse guy, so I'm looking for the ground balls. And today, my defense worked behind me and did a good job.

We would like to cut down on the strikeouts, but that will come through facing live pitching. We just didn't put the ball in play when we needed to.

It's something we stress all the time. We work on different aspects of defense, especially team defense, where we help each other. We try to get fast with our hands instead of fast with our feet, and that gets us in foul trouble. Then we're trying to defend them with all guards out there, it just wasn't going to work. I take full responsibility for this loss. I did not do a good job of preparing the girls for this game and the defense that we needed to run.

Last season, we hurt ourselves on the relays throwing home and balls getting through the infield. We just can't give away runs with this pitching staff. It's too good. So we needed that type of strong defense.

All of the girls played really hard tonight. We struggled a little at the end with their press but we were able to make up for it on defense. The girls are all really scrappy and they aren't afraid to hit the floor. I am proud of the hard work that they are giving it shows in practice and at the games.

Our defense did a very good job today. We had the game we lost to Northeast and we were just out of it. Tonight the girls knew they really had to work.
